Yeah, he seems pretty docile and sweet in that one very brief flashback to his childhood. Being the victim of hate, ostracization, and constant attempted murders for 150 years changed him.

Kagome aside, he also became way more caring towards his friends, like that time he forced Miroku to close the Wind Tunnel during a fight at the temple of Miroku's master or towards the end when he was respectful enough of Miroku's wish to keep fighting until the bitter end he agreed not to tell Sango he only had a few uses left.

You seem to remember the series well, so do you have any anecdotes of Inuyasha being an asshole early on? I remember two people saying that Inuyasha was such a huge jerkass for the first 20 or 30 episodes that they didn't like him, but I don't remember him being too bad in any way after Yura of the Hair.

He was a dick to Shippo constantly. He also would smell demon aura on random villagers and no one would believe him at first until they got rid of their disguises.

You can argue that Inuyasha is a bit too mild to be a "bad boy", but calling a criminal sociopath like Sasuke that is definitely too little.

Even 20 episodes in they weren't officially a thing, they were still tsundere for each other.

It's in volume 3, it's the beginning of the story where Kagome finds a jewel shard in the present stuck to a mask that goes around killing people. Episode 11 in the anime.

I don't think they were ever officially an item until the final chapter of the original. I'm just glad that the change is more gradual than I remember and that he was still capable of being a huge dick even post-Yura.

The anime made them more Tsundere for each other than the manga does

Kagome basically confesses him her love a bit before the halfway point, though I can't remember exactly when. She tells him she wants to stay by his side even if he's unable to forget about Kikyo. But yeah, they're never officially a couple like Miroku and Sango once he proposes to her, they're an implied one.

They definitely reached a point where their feelings were mutual for each other and they knew it before the end but it was up to Kagome to make the final decision. In anime canon it was even more blatant earlier on with the movies honing in on the romantic side of their relationship.
