Does anyone else think that this series is progressively getting more and more ruined by the author's edgy obsession with le horrific gore?
When the series started I was pretty much in love with it because it had such a unique atmosphere and a really exciting premise, then the Mitty thing happened and i got a little bit worried.
I just finished watching the 3rd Film yesterday and it contained at least 30 minutes of torture porn. Does the author get off on this shit? It's not grim and mature, just feels edgy. I had no problems with the insects that took the cave raiders as hosts because it was packaged inside enough fascinating background to not just feel like the author trying to be edgy, but the whole Prushka thing and Reg getting examined just felt like the author jerking off.

It's a bummer because i really like everything else about this show

Only you

No.
And not every gore must be edgy.

No, it doesn't but in this series it certainly feels like the author jerking off. I mean he's admitted that he's a pedo so he probably gets off to guro too.

I think the situations around the gore are still interesting, for instance the whole deal with the cartridges serves to make Bondrewd an extremely effective and memorable character to hate. The following arc also builds a very interesting setting around a horrific premise that gets gradually revealed.

It's the rules of the series. These just so happen to be cute characters trapped in a cruel world. You can't just get angry and call it shock value because muh moeblobs.

>everything that happens
>end of the movie
>"lol bondrewd and i came to an understanding he cool"
trash show

There's not a whole lot of it in the sixth layer arc. The stuff with Reg getting examined is probably the worst the manga gets in that regard.

the gore is obviously fan service. however it's not the amount of gore content in this series or how intense it is that takes me away from it, but how it's presented.
It's just cheap shock value and thinly vailed fetish fuel. I think MiA could be gorey without it being this pandering. However I think people overreact really hard when it comes to MiA. The gore isn't even that shocking, there are a lot of series that are more brutal than than MiA. I feel like MiA is just a filter for normalfags that get fooled by the cute character designs and turned off at the fetishy loli gore scenes.

You're absolutely right, it's an interesting premise and world bogged down by pedobait torture porn, japs just can't seem to help themselves, it's borderline pathological.

they killed Bondrewd #5762, but have no beef yet with Bondrewd #10800

yea fetishy gore is the right way to put it.
i'm not opposed to gore per se, but it's done in such a tasteless manner here.
doesn't help that the show is basically just like your generic shonen anime where everything can be solved with the power of (poorly written) friendship or sudden power ups now.

also the way prushka's and riko's supposed friendship was handled was so awful. like the movie tells you that they're apparently good friends somehow but it never shows even 1% of what would be required to make the viewer believe in that friendship

but it's the same person

this. the movie was really underwhelming desu. Pruhska was just here for cheap shock value, but the movie didn't really make the viewer care about her. she felt like a character of the week that was just there for making Bondrwed look even worse.
Honestly, I couldn't care less about the shoehorned sob story with her and her "Daddy". Prushka is just a plot device to create artificial drama and progress the story by making her into a whistle, which on it's own is the solution to a problem that was just introduced in the arc itself. The whole thing just feels forced and badly written.
Especially Bondrwed. He's by far the most interesting character, but gets degraded to a "muh so evil" villain to justify action scences and to be finished off by Reg's random power up. Also this whole "lul offscreen negotiations" thing was just rediculous.

If the author keeps the artstyle then yeah, he's edgy.
Stay away from this as far as possible until he changed his artstyle.

A core part of the series is cuteness juxtaposed with grotesqueness. If you can't handle that, then maybe it's not the right series for you.

It's not ruined by it, you are just (for some reason) expecting a different story. MiA has been a gory and brutal kids' adventure from the start and the deeper they go the worse it gets, you really should have seen this coming.

This, I don't think the show is that "edgy" compared to other stuff but because it's kids the contrast makes people overreact. I personally like how it goes from "kids on a cute adventure in a mysterious world" to "holy shit Bondrewd what the fuck".

The horrific stuff is a pretty important aspect of the series, man. I agree it could be done better, but it not being there would make the series worse.

>However I think people overreact really hard when it comes to MiA. The gore isn't even that shocking, there are a lot of series that are more brutal than than MiA. Also this. It's still surprising to me when I go into threads for this series and see people getting put off by the "gross" fetishism, on Zig Forums of all places.

The only thing that annoys me is that it's not working as normalfag repellant.

>Also this whole "lul offscreen negotiations" thing was just rediculous.
But it's not offscreen, you see all of it.

It was ruined from the start because of the chibi-loli art.

>Does the author get off on this shit?
Yes

>it's edgy therefore it's good!

the only criticism people give made in abyss is edgy because it is that good

Beserk?

>horrific gore
U wot. I'd say it got toned down now.

>[In the film, apparently Riko and co. had talks with Bondrewd off camera]
>Some time has passed [since Bondrewd was defeated] - during that time, they had negotiations during which they came to agreements like
>-Zoaholic and Bondrewd's helmet will be left intact
>-The three will be allowed to move forward
>"I'm gonna respect out team leader's will" - Riko was inspired by Prushka telling her "it's not good to fight; it's better to make peace".
You see none of it.

they could destroy the zoaholic and be attacked by every single one of bondrewd's bodies, including the one from the beginning of the movie, who moved faster than reg could even perceive.
alternatively, they could just be on their way and leave him alone because they're never getting back to the surface anyway and it's just a waste of resources and time. reg has a limited number of blasts left and who knows if and where they'll find electricity again past the fifth layer.

Yeah and Bloodborne would be vastly improved without all the icky bad things and le edgy blood you whiny faggot.

Fuck off Tourist.

>getting yourself killed against the dude who is immortal and could body your team with ease if he needed to when he's letting you go
>letting prushkas sacrifice go in vain on multiple levels on top of that

They want to go to the bottom and not fight Bondrewd till death. They don't care much about him, he was just an obstacle. They didn't go to him for revenge or whatever, he just was at the only place you can go down from.
