Soul eater, better characters and a more coherent story with better aesthetics

fpbp

Considering that I dropped Fire Force. Gonna go with Soul Eater.

Good choice

soul eater, but I like fire force and am sad the author's retiring.

This.

Soul Eater no contest. Maybe I just have rose-tinted SE, but Fire Force just seems worse overall except for like art.

Fire Force, mostly because it has the muscle witch.

Both because I deeply love Ohkubo, no homo.
His stuff is so enjoyable to read, and I love the places he takes his stories to draw the crazy shit he wants to.

It honestly makes me sad that so many people haven't really given Fire Force a chance. I really like both, and I think the main difference from a storytelling standpoint is that Soul Eater presents a lot of information upfront. A lot of "we have to find x and kill them", while Fire Force has a lot more mystery (about the characters themselves and what they need to find). Do people just not have the patience for long-form mystery anymore? What am I missing?

Seconding this. Soul Eater is clearly better but I also enjoy Fire Force. I wonder what Ohkubo has prepared for an ending.

Soul Eater. Fire Force eventually found its footing and started getting into some crazy shit, but Soul Eater was basically there from the get go and only got more crazy and stylish from there. Fire Force has never really managed the same kind of consistent build up and follow through. Also, yes, the characters in Soul Eater work better because of the three groups, two pairs and one trio, that sort of rotate MC duties. Though Maka and Soul are obviously the main-Main Characters, having Black Star and Tsubaki and Kid and the twins around worked better than the more typical "main shounen MC and then the secondaries" that Fire Force goes for. The way characters are paired up and then the way those pairs interact and conflict just worked more dynamically.

She is great.

Ohkubo said one of his mission statements with Soul Eater was to write a story with no flashbacks. Only focusing on the now and moving forward.
I think people do like long-form mystery it's just that manga doesn't lend itself to it as well as, say, a novel.

>Do people just not have the patience for long-form mystery anymore?
I personally don’t mind that kind of thing. It was characters like Tamaki that killed my interest in Fire Force pretty quickly. Course she wasn’t the only reason why I ended up dropping it. But she was definitely one of the main ones.

As I girl, I wasn't really phased by her (it's also kinda like Blair from SE, only Tamaki doesn't mean to to it). It happens a *lot* less in the second season, if that helps

this

I prefer SE's aesthetic, but FF is cool.

For me at least, her entire shtick got old really fast. And in general I don’t care for fanservice. Which is why it got on my nerves even quicker. And speaking of that, the fanservice was another reason why I dropped it. Maybe I’m misremembering, but Fire Force has way more fanservice in it than Soul Eater ever did.

Highly concur

Soul eater

Soul Eater for sure.

Might as well

Is Fire Force worth reading?

Cool

Soul Eater is the winner

>Fire Force eventually found its footing
Not really, unless you mean the amazing adaptation

Soul Eater easily. Fire Force is kinda eh.

I just wish Soul Eater didn't shit itself near the end.
