I remember this being around the time I dropped naruto completely.

This and itachi next, just the need for Kishi to introduce new characters and relationships (sasuke's team), but not even use them or use old characters, and then create relationships that clearly weren't there to begin with just really rubbed me the wrong way.

If Naruto had someone to fall back onto during his early childhood, Sarutobi, Jiraya, Asuma, some no-name non-shinobi, anybody, before meeting Iruka his whole motivations around his orphan status would've vanished, or changed drastically. It's clear Kishi worked around keeping Naruto's status quo backstory while introducing a fuck ton of characters that were directly related to him, and it just makes it look like nobody gave a shit about him.
