Evangelion is good but it suffers because the original anime is the worst way to view the series, while the non-canon manga is best. Then they rebooted the series again solely because the 97 anime is low budget trash.

For elements that were not original they were well done. The series is popular and the characters are iconic for a reason. The porcupine dilemma is present throughout the series, through character interaction and metaphor of ATF. The world is soft post apocalyptic due to the previous impact that wiped out many people, so it's realistic that an MC without any real support structure would falter under the weight of the circumstances. You don't like a vulnerable MC and imperfect cast of characters, fine. You don't like the exploration of the difficulties of connecting with others, and the message that you still should even if it's painful? We're on Zig Forums you probably wouldn't.

It's not really the animation I'm wanking, just the overall art quality. There's a lot really cool mechanical animation during a lot of NERV scenes but also I just really love the aesthetic of the artwork..There's just something about the entire series that I really cant get past, the way it's stylized just really does it for me...Stuff like the Ritsuko episode where she goes and drills into the MAGI brain, the inside with all the post-it notes and neat foreground / background art/shots, I just eat that shit up

That's just a problem with modern animation in general. I'm not gonna go on about old good new bad but you just don't often see new shows, especially TV anime as visually striking as Eva was. That's 1 thing you have to remember, Evangelion was basically just a seasonal show, how often do you see seasonal shit nowadays have such lively art quality. Yeah old cel animation was much more of a pain in the ass to make, but the effort definitely shows.
