I watched all the anime episodes years ago. It was pretty shit. I get why it's popular though, it's a sort of a fandom playground like Touken Ranbu, where official material is barebones but fanmade content makes up for it.

The author used to live in america and knows some english. Pretty sure he's vaguely aware and wouldn't risk playing into the current political hellscape. At the end of the day it's a light hearted gag manga with some historical bits thrown in. Especially the Worldstars series being animated for 2021 (now being continued)
The american dub was far more politically incorrect than the japanaese dub at times. Will be interesting to see what they do with it. IF they even pick it up.
