Slowly getting there. The quest of weeding out the sub-standard albums continues.
4/9 +NGE, TEX, MUSH, FLCL
4/9 +FAF, HAIB, YUUYUU ~WITCH, JABRONY
I don't read manga, I only collect Matsumoto's art books and read his stuff[ which aren't manga but visual novels ;^)/spoiler]
2/2 ZAMURAI, NAUSICAA; qtdragons anime was pretty lame, so I'd be surprised if the manga was any better
5/9 +FRANZ, COPPOLA, JOE, SHISHA (although I've genuinely come to think of it as one of Kawamoto's weaker works), PHANTOMSHIP
Outdate meme, replace Berserk with Utena already.
>SHISHA (although I've genuinely come to think of it as one of Kawamoto's weaker works)
Hard opinion to wrap my head around. Could you expand on it?

Not to sound like an uncultured swine but what manga does that redheaded twintail girl come from?
rating, favorite, least favorite
7/8, +lain, -nhk copy + taste
1/3, ~sora no woto, -kemono friends
4/4, +nausicaa, -emanon although I enjoyed it. other kenji tsuruta works are completely ignored
4/5, +ichigo marshmallow, -maria sama
6/7, +mushishi, -naruto you probably have a reason for liking the naruto soundtrack but I don't remember it at all
1) I think he's better at telling stories that lack in dialogue, or at least have very little of it. Dojoji and Branch both strive from their excellent accoustics and storyboarding and allow the viewer to not only follow the story but also get the jokes, despite not a single line being uttered. Shisha no Sho often confuses me with its major exposition dumps of historical context and relationships. It pulls me out of the experience, which is something I simply don't appreciate.
2) His shorts tend to be aesthetically superior and much more visually coherent. He already experimented with shitty post processing effects in Dojoji, but for Shisha no Sho he completely overdid it (copying the shitty overly from Oni). IIRC, every single time afterlife/spirits start playing a role, he adds some awkward overlay spreading accross no more than a third of the screen. To me, that very action had a tremendously negative impact on the overall experience.
3) I think the film relies to much on props and tangible structures, while one strength of his works were the ethereal and surreal surroundings with their flat and tastefully empty backgrounds, usually painted rather than built. It added some simplicity that really aided the supernatural elements of the "plot". More often than not, Shisha no Sho feels like a "poorly animated" Japanese live action film.
Though it should be said that my fascination with the film had dropped significantly by the time I had seen what western directors were capable of achieving. It really dispelled the illusion of Shisha no Sho being well animated, cause it really isn't. After Gon's success, maybe Japan will finally enter the stop-motion industry more in-depth. Unlikely, but who knows.

>not very unique
I see these threads are as shit as I remember them to be.
Took you long enough, don't forget to tell mom
What I don't understand is, how could the grids be filled with good taste and yet the catalogue is always garbage. Do 3x3 anons not shitpost about their favorite series?
anime is growing in popularity, 3x3 anons generally have been watching anime for much longer due to the unforgiving nature of the threads. most shitposters are underage users who began watching anime within the last year or two
Than what do 3x3 anons do on Zig Forums when they are not postin on 3x3 threads? Do they go to the loli image dumps? the Naruto story times?
I am busying mourning Aniki's death. Kishi's a hack.
This is serious bros. can we get an F in the chat for Itachi?
they refresh the page in grave anticipation for the next 3x3 thread to appear
Food for thought: Have you ever taken into consideration that most 3x3 posters are unable to articulate themselves? Being able to make a grid doesn't mean you're able to talk about why, or in what way, you (dis)like something. It's easy to pick a favourite. Anybody can do it. Which is precisely what this meme refers to. Imo, it's pretty accurate, actually.
There's no need to be upset.
+ clannad, Ghost stories + initial D - Lain.
i refuse to watch the rest of that moeshit.
5/5
This feels like an only slightly adapted version of the meme version, though.
What's mid right? Looks neat.

This is a random thing to say, but I sometimes feel like the only one who hates these overly long LN style titles that sound more like a sentence rather than a title.
Absolutely outstanding taste in soundtracks. Night on The Galactic Railroad's soundtrack is the stuff of legends:

Respect for Yamato, but honestly all Leiji works have equally great OSTs to the point I can't choose between them.
Most of the stuff on the catalog is currently airing. It means there's more to speculate about and discussion is fresh. Meanwhile, some people's favourites may have had discussion going on about them for anywhere between 5 to 40 years. At some point, it becomes hard to discuss it any further than "it's good and you should watch it" without just reiterating the same talking points over and over.

I wish parody dubs like Ghost Stories were still a thing.
I don't get Mushishi
It's ok, every person has their own taste in something, you don't need to like it.
Not much you need to "get", you just gotta soak in the atmosphere. Guess it just doesn't click with you which is understandable
Thanks user
I'd say it's kinda like ASMR in anime form

Hate to rain on your parade but the song you've linked is false advertisement. That's from the book's 1996 3DCG remake. Hisaishi wasn't involved in Gisaburou's adaptation. Nokto de la Galaksia is a very different album to anything Hisaishi has ever made, which I genuinely think it for the better. A very unique soundtrack for its time.
