There should have been a full-scale anime adaption of halo in the mid 2000's. That would have been pure excellence and bliss. It would have had decent animation with little CGI and just the right amount of 2000's edge. As well, there would be little of the forced diversity and political correctness that we're bound to get with any adaption done today. Sad day we live in as they're just gonna drag halo's corpse through all the wringers to get as much money as they can from it with out producing anything with quality or soul.

I don't trust the japanese to actually be able to write military fiction anymore. I can see a good anime that focuses on something about ONI postwar sorta like Hunt the Truth (still the best thing 343 has put out), Or something about recolonizing glassed worlds. Both of those plots I can see a japanese writer doing well

I think they would be able to capture the general ambiance of the futility, tragedy, and sacrifice of mankind's struggle against the covenant in a more aesthetic way than western writers could. They still have an idea of what makes the forlorn solider tick or the pain of making sacrifices that amount to precious little because of their own history.

eh, in the 80s i'd agree with you, but the war generation of japan is all dead by now, ESPECIALLY former soldiers, and the current crop of japanese writers are basically 90% people whose only life experiences before writing anime was high school and watching anime and playing games

Yeah, true. I forgot that most of the old guard is either gone or just hanging around with a sinecure and that the new generation has really taken the Western bait for vapid flashy bullshit and becoming a historyless nation. But between Western or Japanese creators, I still think it is a toss up over who would right a better halo story today and I would have to side with the japs. I still think most Japanese understand aesthetics better than the West and aren't as corrupted by the desire to conform their works to the current Western social/moral dogmas that completely rob a work of its soul.

I’ve always wanted something from the Covenant’s perspective during the civil war and Flood outbreak on High Charity. I always though an ODST style game about Elites would be great but an action-horror anime might work.

Like, the difference (for military fiction at least) is that for the west, there are actual soldiers bringing flesh blood into the creative scene occasionally. You aren't going to always end up with masterpieces like the forever war, but it's still fresh blood. Unlike japan, who hasn't fought in 80 years. This isn't "west bad japan good" autism like you are screeching, japan's problem is MUCH deeper
Any book or show written by people whose sum total of life experiences were "grew up watching/reading fiction" is going to be shit, if anything this problem is MUCH more prevalent in japan than the west
