does the fact that start platinum can stop time count? we know that the original idea was that Dio had all the start dust crusaders powers right, so at that point, it would not be an asspull, but then that was retconned to just having Jonathan and jotaro stands which I guess makes a bit of sense but no too much, I just wish araki would have added more clues when he made the change because at the end it does feel like an ass pull

The whole Dio fight is an asspull, i know they're not really flying in the Manga like in the anime but it's still pretty absurd, Jotaro just learning time stop like that, Dio being nerfed to the ground without any vampiric powers besides regen and a couple of 9 second time stops, his death, everything.

The only seriously unforgivably stupid part of the Dio fight in my opinion is when Jotaro gets brained by a thrown knife but just happened to have a thick textbook under his hat that stopped it.
