>this random thing that happened to me is somehow the best thing that happened to me in my whole, narrated against mellow piano music

Holy shit Shinkai is literally just recycling his lines, why the fuck is this hack so popular?

His stuff was much better when he was stuck slaving alone in his apartment sweatshop producing 20 min shorts.

>100 Beef
>only a small patty in the middle of the whole construct is beef
False advertising.

Tenki no ko is best thing he ever produced.

The melodramatic narrating voice really ruins even otherwise tolerable parts of the movie.
It's certainly the worst.

>This random stranger showed me kindness and I'm from a home where my parents beat the shit out of me
Yeah, he really appreciated it OP.

Not even close.

You could make the same argument with how shounenshit is just "punch harder and scream like an autist until you get new power up" or isekai all being NEET gets transported and given god like hax abilities.

who cares, just enjoy the sakuga

you can, and I do

Doesn't he just do the same story over and over again?

Literally an entire city flooded because he wouldn't let one girl be sacrificed. How many had to die just so he could have that one girl?

I got some mcd's breakfast already today, but now i kinda want a big mac

dog bless!

You don't get it, random strangers didn't go out of their way to get involved with some kid ran away from home in the first half of the movie so FUCK EVERYONE IN TOKYO.

You know I get why he would choose the girl, but more importantly

why the fuck was that the binary choice in the first place? Like how the fuck does it make sense? Like it just seemed fucking random that it's either flood Tokyo or sacrifice this random girl who attained weather powers randomly. It's just all forced melodrama.

I swear Shinkai is so full of himself.

You guys can shit on Anno all you want, but at least he's self-conscious enough that he's crippled by depression and took him 9 years to finish eva 4.0

Because she was to be the sacrifice. No sacrifice, no good weather. You can't half sacrifice someone you gotta do the whole thing.

Shinkai just wanted Le ebin moral choice without even bothering to build up to it and its motivation. Seriously, the lore behind the weather miko is so fucking barebones and half assed, much worse than in Your Name.

I've watched his older shit and it's all the same. He's a melodrama machine and has always been.

you brainlets do realize that the whole flooding and superpower thing had nothing to do with each other right? Like that's just climate change and chuunibyou.

The sunshine girl narrative was just their imagined narrative to deal with their problems, like none of it is real.

The MC choosing to believe he caused flood is just his way to give existential meaning to his shitty life so far.

Jesus you guys don't understand subtle story-telling.

She directly affected the weather, dummy. If she stayed up there Tokyo would not have flooded. Nice reddit spacing.

Absolute retard.

that's just coincidence, dummy. It's literally foreshadowed by those wacky magazine articles about supernatural shit.

If she stayed "up there," Tokyo would still be flooded.

In the first place she was just sleeping on the roof, because she wanted to run away from all her problems. The MC entering some magic world to find her is just his chuunibyou narrative.

>that's just coincidence
Yeah, all the dozens times she did it they were all coincidences.
Pretty sad when you have to make up nonsense like this to get something out of a shit movie.

>MADE
>for you

What? The whole point is that she's a child who had the burden of sacrificing herself to save the world forced on her. You're dumber than this retard .

The problem is with the scale he tries to invoke the melodrama.

Beyond the Stars was a fine focused story in which melodrama is really a side-note to the intergalactic war going on.

5 cm was about kids growing up and being separated, which is melodramatic but never overreaching aside from maybe the dude playing violin in his room and suddenly quitting his job.

Garden of Words was just Shinkai exploring his fetish of teach/student affair, nothing special going on either.

It's with Your Name where he started to go full retard by having to wipe a whole town off the map with a meteor just to tell his dumb story, same with Tenki No Ko.

What's wrong with that? He dialed down on the melodrama in exchange for the story having a larger scale. Plus, it's not like old Shinkai never made a film with larger focus. He made The Place Promised in Our Early Days.

Id monch hinas burger if i was hodoka desu

Why the FUCK did he run away

Sorry, that might have been interesting and gave the character more depth, but we really needed more insert songs, montages and scenes of people running somewhere instead.
