RomCom ideas & tropes

How do we save, or at the very least, spice up the RomCom genre, Zig Forums? It’s gotten pretty stale and bland, not to mentioned streamlined in recent years. Any ideas worth sharing?

I hate when the first girl introduced is the school princess, everyone in the school loves them and worships them, she's the best at studying and sports, and so on. Of course the girl is the childhood friend of the boring, loser, nebbish male protagonist. I'm god damned tired of 'childhood friends' and 'childhood encounters' and the transfer student. I hate the formula of 'childhood friends start to see each other in a new light but as soon as they nearly confess to each other a new transfer student is introduced and low and behold she made a childhood promise to marry the protag when they were eight'. And of course, the silly hypersexual 'lucky lewd' nonsense while at the same time all the teenagers in the story are ridiculously pure and die from nosebleeds when they hold hands for the first time. I'm tired of both the MC and his harem all picking up the idiot ball, playing hot potato with it for so long that you get surprised any of the characters have a thought in their head when they revert to their original selves 100 chapters in for a brief few panels and then go right back to being brain dead retarded for the MC. But these are all nitpicks for a bigger problem.

Stories, fuck even anecdotes, have a POINT to them, they have a purpose, an ending. You can still keep going after the original 'end' and many great stories do this since the beginning of time. Romantic comedy in manga has a real problem of delaying the pay off, ignoring the pay off, or 'subverting' the pay off for no reason. It gets exhausting. The biggest problem with romance manga is NO FUCKING PROGRESS. But the answer isn't to have the couple start dating early or fucking. It's the essential failure of the mangaka and editors and everyone involved to understand interpersonal relationships psychologically. It's not their fault, no one is an 'expert' but still, it's as if they are deliberately not trying. They patch up all the holes with gimmicks.

Combine the annoying lesbian loser and male loser friend of the MC into one character, making a helpful lesbian who has her own love interest she's trying to win separate from the MC's while occasionally giving him advice on how to pick up women.
