So, he’s adapting this arc against the monster association. Murata is known to sometimes change a chapter he’s made if he or ONE don’t like it. The way this fight is portrayed, amai mask slaughtered the mercenaries under do-s’ thrall and also killed her. This was in line with the characterization he had to this point. ONE releases chapters that add some dimension to him, the details of which are a bit incongruous with the former adaptation. Murata decided to redraw that fight sequence to be more merciful. A number of fans (myself included) feel that the change was unnecessary given the character’s zealous temperament and the grey moral nature of the source material. That’s just our preference

What exactly was wrong with what mask did there, it doesn't actually clash with the whole story of being a monster who's trying to be nice and humane. Hell most of us would do way worse shit in his position.
Only reason to rework his story is because Saitama called him cool, so autists won't make fun of him by putting that quote next to him murdering people.
