Engineers set up the singularity engine, Doctors prepare medical supplies, Roboticists prepare machine drones to help with day to day life, Scientists study a variety of subjects ranging from the xenobioligy of aliens or the explosive properties of a new plasma-crystal the Miners are unearthing planet-side on the desolate landscape they are carving up for minerals, and mostly people just try to stay alive.
However there is often an antagonist at play, it could be a syndicate traitor seeking to steal certain blueprints or assassinate a certain crew member, or a shapeshifting changeling looking to assimilate as many human hosts as possible, or a team of syndicate commandos' looking to storm the station and set off a nuclear bomb, or a rag-tag band of grunts looking to rise up and mutiny against the captain, or an insidious cult to an ancient diety looking to conjure their celestial god into the material or a dangerous plasma-snorting space-wizard looking to do whatever space wizards do, A hostile AI turned rogue seeking to suplant as many electronic systems as possible until he can set the station reactor to blow up or possibly no one and the station succumbs to it's own sense of paranoia and self-destructive tendencies.
One of the job roles is the Clown, who is as you might imagine, a clown. Originally designed as a "Punishment role" for misbehaving players generally functions as a mischevious entertainer and occasionally the bane of security forces, throwing bannana-peels into the middle of high impact gunfights between security forces and boarding space-pirates and the like. The more robust players could lead to the clown proving his dominance over even the most heavily armed security officers in riot gear using only a bannana peel, a water-spraying flower and a nearby table.
