>people actually liked rebuild 3.3 What the fuck? I mean I get it in a metasense but Jesus it's a terrible fucking edition to the series. How can someone honestly think "hey this was the best one". I mean shit, it's like walking to a theme park (2.0) going on a few rides, then they announce the big gigantic ride(what 3.0 should've been), only for you to get stuck at the top just for the lols and slowly rope you back in. (what we got)
Man fuck this movie. It's a strip dance with a stripper that never strips.
I hate this movie because of the setup it's left us with for the finale. Simply put? There's no hope for it to end with Shinji in a happy place.
Asuka Misato and Wille hate him for what he did both in 2.22 and in 3.33, PenPen, Touji, Kensuke, and Hikari are probably dead. Rei is definitely dead and replaced with a clone. And he's guilty of killing millions of people.
Even if he does end up somehow helping Wille and Misato. There's no way to undo the horrible things he is singlehandedly guilty for. After the events of 3.33? Shinji is doomed to either commit suicide, or live the rest of his no doubt short life after the events of the final movie, alone and miserable.
Not that user but it’s the first movie where Rebuild truly forges its own path instead of just being a more colorful and even more basic retread of the original. Lots of homages to ep 24, sure, but if I’m getting a “reboot” I want it to be a different storyline (I’m sure I’m in the minority opinion here). There’s the oppressive atmosphere, the larger than life OST. There are a lot of scenes that are incredibly symbolic and more foreshadowing than at first glance. It’s the only Rebuild yet that I actually feel like I notice more upon rewatch.

That makes it a good movie though. There were actual consequences to the MC's actions
Julian Anderson
The theme of the entire Rebuild series is “hope” so I don’t think so. Plus Kaworu is like way too certain that their destiny has “changed” and despite dying, he left Shinji telling him they’ll meet again (and even before that, that no person is irredeemable).
You have those storyboards for possibly 3.0+1.0 that also show Misato holding Shinji (?) I think. I could totally see them reconciling - Misato hesitating to pull the trigger shows that she still cares for him as much as she wants to repress it. Asuka - well, she’s a secondary character in Rebuild and barely knew him before the timeskip. I’m not sure her opinion matters as much here

user, you unironically didn't get it. These films really are masterpieces, but you can't watch them without keeping the originals in mind. 1.11 is the weakest one, if only because it played it so safe. Of course Ramiel and the Shinji runaway sequences are still utterly brilliant. 2.22 is more interesting, because despite all the changes things end up going the same way, until they don't. You CAN advance.
Not just 24, but also 20, 21 and 23.

1.0 and 2.0 were both super bad, 3.0 is the best of them all but still pretty mediocre
Cooper Brooks
Name something you think is good. Also explain what specifically was bad aboit these films.

2.0 was an entirely different vacation spot and not Evangelion in the least, 3.0 is a good spin on the last third of the TV series
Alexander Rogers
>2.0 was an entirely different vacation spot and not Evangelion in the least, 3.0 is a good spin on the last third of the TV series Funny how you say that, when 2.0 was nothing more than an interesting spin on the second third of the TV series.
Austin Lopez
2.0 didn’t feel that way at all for me except for the very end. It was extremely like the second half of the series, except more condensed and watered down.
Samuel Rivera
>literally every character is inverted from the show 2.0 was what Eva would be if it were anything besides Evangelion, a generic super robot romcom pseudoharem story
Kevin Peterson
The biggest aspect that brought 1.0 and 2.0 down was how absolutely rushed those two movies were. You were brought from one scene to the next without any time to digest it as if it were a slideshow, it was basically Eva on ADD. Thus all the relationships felt rushed too and without substance, which make it harder to care about what happens to any of the characters (see: Mari). 3.0 succeeded in being the first of the three to actually be a decently paced movie where the bulk of it is spent on fleshing out characters and their relationships.
Levi Jones
2.0 is just Tsurumaki's Eva
Ethan Evans
>You were brought from one scene to the next without any time to digest it as if it were a slideshow This is why 1.0 and 2.0 couldn't click for me as well as 3.0. I really liked the pacing for 3.0 more. There was a lot more emphasis on atmosphere, setting, and theme and how that influences the characters than on "fun robot action" with some random slice of life in between. It's the most original of the Rebuilds relative to the series, but it's also the one that ironically feels the most "Anno", I guess.
Evan Ramirez
Yes, it really felt like the first two movies were trying to get through as much content as possible, whereas 3.0 took its time and developed things adequately. It still has a lot of flaws, but it was a major improvement from the previous two movies.
>Gendo's new chad shades show he's gone from mere disapproving father to sacrificing whatever was left of his humanity >Shinji's expression goes from defeat/sadness to complete shock and anger >NERV has gone full eldritch
