Sony nears acquisition of US anime streaming service Crunchyroll

>TOKYO -- Sony has entered into final negotiations to acquire U.S. anime-streaming service Crunchyroll, Nikkei learned on Friday, a deal that could catapult the Japanese icon into a global battle with the likes of Netflix.

>Sony could end up spending more than 100 billion yen ($957 million) on the U.S. streamer, gaining its 70 million members around the world.

is this good or bad?

I doubt they'd be too hands-on, but if they were, it would be bad. Their videogame division has been on a crusade against fanservice in Japanese anime games.

>is this good or bad?
Use your fucking brain?

>Sony
That'd just make torrenting anime a hell of a lot worse without a VPN. Can't wait for my ISP to get pissed off for me torrenting an anime Crunchyroll doesn't even fully have.

>modern sony
>anime

oof

If not Sony, wouldn't Crunchyroll eventually be bought out by Amazon or Netflix? Sony will be corporately exploitive but at least they won't pump their productions full of diversity propaganda.

With how they've been dutifully taking it upon their noble shoulders to right the wrongs of the marginalized and oppressed in Japanese video games...this is bad

Wouldn't that give them a monopoly though

>sony doesn't pump their productions full of diversity propaganda

haha oh wow

>>I doubt they'd be too hands-on
They aren't with Aniplex and FGO, which only highlights their hypocrisy compared to how they operate with PlayStation and Sony Pictures.

>gaining its 70 million members around the world.
But CR only has 3m paid subs. They don't to buy over a streaming service, they only need get the gajin stream license like Netflix.

*need to

>is this good or bad?
Honestly, Crunchyroll is so retarded right now with their gook anime attmept and that original spice shit, it won't be worse.

Maybe we can finally get some good anime instead of waifu and moe shit

No idea about FGO, but Aniplex has been a Sony gig since the beginning. And they wouldn't need to step in anyway because Aniplex is already in line: They sell disks at japanese prices.

Sony isn't directly responsible for globalized version og those content last time I checked?
People in Japan have a tendency to fit in to Western norm when trying to make their conyent available to the West.
They can obviously try various thing to get more people paying

>is this good or bad?
If you need to ask or pretend neutrality, in the end you are just a joyful sheep working for free for them.

>but at least they won't pump their productions full of diversity propaganda.
imagine believing this

Good. Make an open world anime rpg for the PlayStation too

sony will be banned in australia, awesome

>cheating
like pottery bosniabros

Not necessarily. There's Netflix and lolHIDIVE as their competition.

>is this good or bad?
As long as we get the rips from CR who cares?

>Sony will be corporately exploitive but at least they won't pump their productions full of diversity propaganda.
Clearly you haven't been paying attention to what is happening with playstation.

It's not hypocrisy, it's just that different branches aren't really connected and are operated by different people.

Buying CR means that they don't have to compete with CR for licenses (which will save their money). It also means that Funi doesn't have to expand internationally (which costs them money) since CR can license Worldwide ex. Asia.

I guess it's kind of on the edge depending on if you define anime focused streaming as a separate industry to streaming with some anime.

Sounds like the least worst option to me

Fuck off snoy

so(n)y

Quick question. Is Aniplex based on Japan? Sony moved PS headquarters to commifornie then their crusade against lewd started.

that's the wrong one

If you take out streaming, there's also Discotek as competitor, albeit on Home Video.

extremely bad
nu-sony has been cucked beyond belief ever since they moved to commiefornia

>Hey guys, I'm from Zig Forums, and let me tell you that I know that EVERY SINGLE DIVISION of Sony is exactly like their PlayStation division. Dude, trust me!
As soon as this news came up, I knew these uneducated crossboarding Zig Forumsermin faggots will out themselves.
>Quick question. Is Aniplex based on Japan?
It is. Sony Music Japan owns Aniplex.

I don't have a problem with Sony. So it seems fine to me.

>I doubt they'd be too hands-on, but if they were, it would be bad. Their videogame division has been on a crusade against fanservice in Japanese anime games.
You forgot that their main videogame division HQ are in California USA.

Whoops, guess I should have updated the page one last time before clicking submit. Forgot one hereImagine thinking the PlayStation division moving to Commiefornia means Sony Corporation HQ also moved to Commiefornia.

>Sony Music Japan owns Aniplex.
Awesome. Let's hope it remains that way.

Totally, I'm sure Sony will be totally different dealing with anime. Totally. Btw, they're not gonna hire you.

>all american subs will be funi-tier trash
Muse will have to save the day, I guess.

>their main videogame division HQ are in California USA.
Is Aniplex HQ in California? Is Sony Corp HQ in California. I know it's in the nature of you crossboarding Zig Forumsermins to jump to conclusions and chimp out, but please get your facts straight beforehand.

I remember people saying that funimation became even more shit after getting acquired by sony
(I don't really pay attention since I use the subs only as a pop-up dictionary)
I assume the same thing should happen with crunchyroll, right?

Sony always wins baby.

Attached: 1567287694381.jpg (720x720, 64.66K)

But Erai and Subs-Please don't rip Muse Asia.

>a division of a medium that is becoming more and more popular in the west will not be the same as the division that is popular in the west
oh you

Funimation HQ is in Texas

So?

It's good. The alternative would be an American company buying it, which would mean Californians and the like getting a say in the content on offer.

Their video game division is the only one not run from Japan, which is why that happens. Those people would not have aything to do with this.

You're either extremely naive or just shill.
Most likely shill. They've been very aggressive. Especially those from netflix.

but they're hardsub-only niggers

>You do realize the pro-censorship sentiment goes all the way up to the actual chairmen of Sony, correct?
[citation needed]

I think at&t is asking a bit too much for this purchase to not be a waste for amazon and netflix. Only sony wins a lot from it and is willing to spend more because of that.

I am pretty sure Sony have said they're going to make an independent division for Animw content

I'm proud of Italy, for once

"Playstation" (aka Sony Interactive Entertainment) isn't really Sony anymore, it's its own American-run thing that has nothing to do with anything not-Playstation related Sony does.

Playstation shit being what it is doesn't affect any non-Playstation shit.

>trying this hard to defend snoy
Go away, shill.

>If you dare to make a reasonable post against my doom-and-gloom Zig Forumsermin faggotry, you're a SHILL!
>Source: "Dude, trust me!"
Sure, Zig Forumsro.
