Hasn't really aged well but still worth giving a shot

If you can put up with renton being a stupid fucking retard every episode it's not bad.

I watched it for Anemone though.

Eureka 7 is convoluted and twice as long as it should have been.

is he just a dumb asshole

Yeah. He grows up a little bit through the series but even in the final episodes he's doing dumb shit. For instance.
In the end when Eureka is going through her transformation and her arm is this weird corolian jelly looking thing renton goes retarded and decides to bash his arm in with a rock for some reason I can't exactly remember. He then ends up getting a fever / infection for his bravery

It's been a while since I've rewatched it but it was something along those lines.

It's awesome. Rare for its time nothing like it anymore. None of the sequels should be touched under any circumstance

I liked the whole idea of air-surfing giant robots and scub coral, but the pacing actively drags it down too much and too little time is spent on worldbuilding. The antagonists were also bad.

it fucking worked didn't it?

The show has crazy amounts of world building though.

>Hasn't really aged well
Watched it last year. Still leagues better than any seasonal shit.

Serious answer.

The series is good. It's aged a little poorly because there were so many similar series that followed it. If you are autistic or ADHD do not even try it, because its a coming of age story with mecha as it's secondary trait.

The story is almost entirely based around the characters, their conflicts, and the world/world building. It's a very good series if you go into it understanding renton and the kids are MEANT to be frustrating.

It's pretty good. Certainly far better than the seasonal trash that's constantly shoveled out nowadays.

Maybe enough for a 2 cours series. For a 50 episode series it is spread extremely thin and not really cathartic in the timing of its delivery.

Yeah it's pretty good. Kinda swings in quality over the full 50 episodes but ultimately enjoyable

>Hasn't really aged well
I disagree with that strongly. I'd honestly probably consider it a timeless work. Not that it's perfect mind you, but that you can watch it in any year and it still holds up

better character design than most anime nowadays

yes

Been ages since I last watched it but from what I remember it suffers from what many mecha anime suffer from being that it has lots of interesting ideas but struggles to effectively communicate them because its trying to sell you toys at the same time.

i didn't really like it. i watched it when it first came out though. the sequels are universally hated

It's alright. I didn't like how it ended but give it a try

If by "worked" you mean "endangering them both", then yeah it did.

Eureka Seven was a merch pushing series?

Bad opinion, no mecha is like this, you are just a dumb American that needs everything spelled out for you in large neon lights.

E7 is more like "I ain't gotta explain shit about this world" for most of the first half, and when it does drop details, it's about things you either figured out on your own or stopped caring about by the time they're explained.

It definitely came off as a kids' show to me, in that the Nirvash has the most kid-friendly mecha face I've ever seen. Also, most of the battles are short and don't really feel like there's much at stake until the married couple show up.

It's pretty bad, mainly because of the awful characters and their dumb edgy backstories. The animation and character design are nice though.

There wasn't enough mecha fights for it to be pushing toys. I agree it has some issues with communicating it's ideas, but it's not because of there being too many toys in it

It aired at like 8 AM or something. Definitely kids show weirdly enough

>don't really feel like there's much at stake until the married couple show up
I would argue that there doesn't have to be that much at stake. Up until Renton bails, the anime is about his expectations of the Gekkostate, his heroes, meeting reality. As for it being a kids show, I think kid me would have only enjoyed the fighting and pretty much groaned that there wasn't enough of it.

An E7 thread again, comfy.

I'll say it if no one else will.

CANCER VICTIM EUREKA IS THE CUTEST EUREKA

Cutest Eureka and cutest moments too, the makeup episode was adorable.

It was co-produced by Bandai, you can be sure there was a toy angle.

I will admit I'm not too bothered by that angle, you gotta make your money back somehow, but there is this sense that Dai Sato's vision wasn't fully realized because of this. There are some pretty hard sci-fi and philosophic references tucked into this series but it only really scratches the surface rather than exploring them fully.
