Why hasn’t there been a sci-if anime that comes even remotely close since?

Does season 2 of Hyper Oats ever get good?
Is the movie at least decent?

Well, I don't know. But if you're looking for something cyberpunk this season: Akudama Drive is good so far.

It's shit and was surpassed this year.

Pretend everything after S1 doesn't exist.

No it's just a shitty compressed rehash of season 1.

ID Invaded was fun but cmon it wasn't close to psycho pass

>has magic shit
disqualified as sci fi

>Sibyl isn't magic shit

brains in a jar is more grounded than reality warping esper powers

>it's not my type of scifi so it's not scifi
Brainlet take.

you have to draw the line somewhere. Star wars is also not sci fi

As shit as it can be, space opera is also scifi.

Decadence was almost as good as SAC just because they played a very high sci-fi concept straight and Akudama Drive this season looks promising and faithfully follows cyberpunk conventions although of course the story could turn to the shitter.

Because there hasn’t really been a sci fi manga that has come close ever since.

Dropped the first season halfway through after LITERALLY falling asleep during an episode. I can’t believe this shit is considered a masterpiece. I’ve never had a show be recommended so hard and then have it let me down so much.

its fantasy with sci fi elements. In order to be science fiction you need to have something based on real or hypothetical technology. When you introduce magic it all goes out of the window

psi is exactly as realistic as FTL user

All scifi introduces "magic" at some point. You can't get to fiction without making shit up along the way. Even Terminal Man makes magic bullshit leaps.
To the earlier point. Science-fiction based on Freudian/Jungian psychology is also science-fiction.

all depends on how you explain it. The definitions for genres are always vague

Kemurikusa was much better, I mean, if you talk about sci-fi.

which is why ID: Invaded which goes into your brain through a dream machine is just as sci-fi as GITS where they found the soul and can move it around

You mean Dr. Stone

SAC bores me to tears, wish they had just made a movie trilogy and ended it there. I don't know where the fuck they were going with the TV show with the robotic tanks with childrens voices and giving Batou a ponytail.
