You look at this shit and realise: there is no way post 3.0 Shinji is ever going to be able to get in a GAR fight like this. If he does, after all the shit that happened, then his character arc is bankrupt.
But we're stuck because Eva-01 is still the series most iconic Eva, and Rei-II and possibly Yui are still trapped inside, so Sho's gotta make an appearance.
But even if we go with EoE's "Dead Whale" Eva-01, putting Shinji into it is just hacknied. But he's the MC and narratively useless outside an Eva so what are you going to do?
I don't see a way out of this without flipping the script inside out. Like have Shinji be the Eva's core and Misato the pilot or something.
