Official Japanese materials have been abbreviating Super Saiyan as SS since it's debut.
SSJ was used by Western fans because the early translations of Dragon Ball into French transliterated the name as Super Saiyajin.
So, SS is correct.

3 compounds of one Fukugōgo (compound word) It's not two words, and the chinese compound "Jin" (人) is not a suffix like we would expect it in English.
If we transliterate it into Latin letters, then the correct abbreviation of the Japanese form is SSJ.
If you prefer the English translation, it's fine. But I believe most people prefer the Japanese version, which is used all over the world, even outside of Japan.
