Why are Japanese writers so bad at writing military fiction?

is it because they have no life experiences?
is it because their only knowledge of the military comes from other japanese entertainment?

nigger go read actual books instead of cartoons made for teenagers. You're asking why there is no holocaust simulator on the disney channel

What!?
I thought all Japanese entertainment was anime?

nigga I have
decent seinen-age range military sci fi exists in the west, and it's nowhere to be see in japan. I ain't asking for all quiet on the western front, i'm asking for "the forever war" levels of quality

I can't fucking express words for how much I hate these god damn "why can't Japs write X? Is it because [stock bait]? Give me recs!" threads.

japan's military history is primarily them fighting each other or being stomped by larger world powers
that doesn't make for good television so they have to make shit up as they go along

It's because competent military writers only write mecha. Accept mecha in your life.

Large scale battles in anime are CGI nowadays anyway

Didn’t the GATE writer have military experience?

Actual japan and thus japanese are not familiar anymore with wartime (starvations, bombings, death) and because JSDF have not a significant military experience they have few informations about the military thing.

Maybe this why Tomimo or Matsumoto war stories are more relevant.

After land of the free drop 2 nukes, Japan is not allowed to have a military. Instead, burgerland will provide the military protection by planting several military bases where soldiers will go around raping and/or making single moms of the local residents. Be glad because these hapas are better looking and increasing Japanese birth rate, even though they're fucked in the head due to single mother, school bullies, and child neglect.

Gunka no Baltzar is pretty good though. I also enjoyed Youjo Senki's first season but no idea how good the novels are. Wouldn't say it's terrible compared to western fiction.

name 5 examples

Blowing up people's waifu with anti tank artillery, machine gun fire, and mustard gas is a poor way to sell figures and mobile games.

Gate is nationalistic self-fellatio. If the author wasn't such a massive fag it could've been much more interesting.

the last time mecha had actual good military writing was the 80s sadly (also the last time that ww2 vets were active to give input)

That's a good thing though

Forever War, Starship Troopers, Old Man's War, Armor, Deathworld for military sci fi targeting the 16-25 age range

eh, not really. Jerking off japan's strengths is one thing, saying "japan has the best specops in the world" is another is right, author was a retarded pog who's lack of knowledge for deployments fucked it

You're watching the wrong war anime.
to be fair the game's anime adaptation was also shit

>stands in your way

Fucking Gundam?

yeah, early gundam was really good. really, in the 70s and 80s japan made some good military science fiction
i'm talking about current writers, who only know of the military through gundam (and other anime), which is why anime as a whole sniffs its own farts so much

This, why is there no option to report a thread for being a rec thread?

What about Space Battleship Yamato? I found the writing somewhat decent

>"Gee why come a place that isn't engaged in nonstop war is so bad at writing about war?!?!"

Everyone is pretty bad at military fiction.
Its actually pretty ironic how bad Americans are at military fiction considering how much they idealize it.

I report under request thread and that works fine in my experience.

Izetta's izettas are quite nice!

Unironically believing a fiction author's ability to write war stories depends on their country's military strength or number of recent wars is retarded as fuck, especially in an era where you can look up everything you'd ever want to know about wars on the internet.

>everything you'd ever want to know about wars on the internet.
But how would you know what you need to know?
War is complicated, and most people have their first experience with strategy from video games where logistics just means that you need to have enough goons running in and out of your mines.

because japan has no military

Pretty sure most of them are from the 60's - 70's.

>But how would you know what you need to know?
By having some basic education. If you don't even know how to inform yourself on a topic, then you should probably not become a writer.
