Yeah, it's insane how much of Zero is him being depressed and doing literally nothing. That wouldn't be so bad, but he is the only person with the power to move the plot along. You could watch the first two and last two episodes and not miss too much. The professor sending future knowledge to himself via brainwashed loli was also pretty good. Okabe needs more antagonists who can time-travel, rather than fight just against fate.

I didn’t realise there was already a S;G thread. I posted some thoughts here: if anyone wants to weigh in.
Biggest discussion for me right now is probably the ending. After thinking about it some more and letting it sink in, I don’t like the ending as much as the VN. The VN’s ending hits you like a truck, while the anime one feels kinda bittersweet.
I think this must be why so many doujin and such I’ve read seem to portray Kurisu as not the same as the one from the alpha line, with just some memories of what happened. The anime signposts the idea of having memories way too hard (the anime made it a thing in the alpha line, but also made it clear they didn’t remember anything after the DMails were canceled), and has Mayuri literally randomly just start talking about how she remembers Kurisu, which is then told to us that no, she doesn’t have Reading Steiner. That flies directly in the face of the VN ending, but I thought that might be for the sake of the reveal, but then there’s no reveal.
In the VN when Kurisu suddenly starts remembering, Okabe realises he never had any convenient super power, everyone has Reading Steiner, they just need a push. It’s implied to the point of being almost outright said that Kurisu (and likely Mayuri and Daru) will get all their memories back and nothing will be lost.
To me, that’s not just a far more satisfying conclusion, but it’s also a reveal that hits you like a truck and recontextualises the entire story. I was stopped dead in my seat when I read it.
Still a solid ending, but I think the VN ending was better. I did absolutely love seeing Okabe tear open his wound when saving her though, Goddamn.
