I don't really understand why so many people hate my man Griffith so much.
Ok, he killed some bandits in a ritual. So what? Do you know how many people those bandits killed? When you don't respect human life, don't expect others to respect yours. It's not like Griffith sacrificed innocents, let's be clear here. He sacrificed bandits who killed many.
Plus, that sacrifice was needed to bring forth a greater good. Thanks to Griffith, Midland was liberated, and Falconia, an utopian safe haven for humanity, emerged.
When you look at it as a whole, Griffith is a good man and an incredible leader.
You need to stop thinking with your emotions, like Guts, and look at it logically and seriously. Griffith is a fantastic, charismatic leader who has helped most people.
Like any woman, Griffith was unable to resist the pull of a bad boy like Guts. So, when he came into vast supernatural power he used it to slowly transform Guts into a bland, well-adjusted average shonen manga hero, who would have no appeal for him.

Griffith is like the anti askeladd. Griffith was a virtuous hero who falls farther than anyone can, completely betraying the comrades who fought to work with and help him pursue his ambitions Askeladd is an unrepentant scumbag who seemingly hates his entire band of pirates, but when push came to shove in every instance, he let them leave instead of force them to stand by him bitterly. In the end of it all, he sacrifices his life to protect someone he had no need to, instead of damning the prince to his suffering.
Somehow, I end up thinking better of the patricidal dickhead in Vinland Saga than I do of the Hero who saved humanity in Berserk
