MC stereotypes

Why is it that so many shonen MCs are certified retards with a room temperature IQ?

so the fans can self-insert

They're meant to be relatable to kids.

just as their viewers

A smart person is less inclined to get into life threatening fights on a near constant occasion.

Shonenshit MCs are inferior in every way to soft seinen protagonists

its easy to write a retard than an intelligent person, Deku is supposed to be intelligent but has the IQ of a 5 year old with down syndrome, Luffy is mentally retarded so you're amazed when he starts reading

Because of Dragonball

Luffy is smarter than you will ever be.

Losers and fakes will never understand how a real king thinks

Luffy never thinks

What do ya’ll think of the Ray stereotype (emo-bang, loner) kind of character?
He’s from The Promised Neverland.

Deku is smart though

>character isn't traditionally intelligent/book smart so he must be stupid
I dunno man you kind of seem like the dumb one here they're the equivalent of Japanese Huckleberry Finn not particularly smart in scienece or math but sevants in problem solving or fighting

Unironically dragon ball, goku being the retard he is set the bar that low.

it's okay at least in theory because it opens at once bot a way forward for the charachter art (will he be happy?) and sets up flashbacks (how did he became miserable fuck)

>Exploits a logia's weakness without even knowing Haki by applying logic (vs Crocodile)
>Does it again (vs Enel)
>Creates a fighting technique based on hyperoxigenating his cells at record speeds via thought experiment (Gear 2)
>Can read social queues (promise to save Nami, talks with Vivi in Alabasta)
How does he have room temp. IQ? Just because he's not book smart? He seems to have a very elastic mind.

>A character doesn't think if his thought process isn't spoonfed to me through monologues
Cringe

A lot of stories with "dumb" main characters have well written smart side characters too though.

Because Son Wukong was a "Fool".
Think of the fool card from Tarot. The card with infinite possibilities. That's basically the philosophy behind many eastern protagonists, particularly in adventure stories and epic journies. also

Goku clones

>Sun wukong clones
ftfy

>Zig Forums is too dumb to even understand the philosophy behind simple battle shounen protagonists
Can't say I'm surprised

>Certified retard
>Wants to be the best at one profession (Pirate king, hokage, shaman king, #1 hero, etc)
>Has one power that makes them super special compared to everyone else
>Likes eating
Bam, every shonen protag.

>MCs are certified retards

luffy isn't a retard by all means. He is a good captain that manage to pick one of the greatest pirate crewmates and able to escape complex prisons in his world.

Yusuke ? Light ? Ichigo ?

Well, the vast majority and some of the most popular ones.

That's only the Dragon Ball/One Piece clones though. Doesn't include the FOTNS clones or the Yusuke/Ichigo esque protagonists.

He has charisma and is a great judge of character. All he really needs. Anything he's not smart enough for himself, he can just choose the best person for the job.

>"i'm still gonna win!"
>doesn't win
what did luffy mean by this

its easier to write a smart character when they aren't the main focus and when you don't have to show their thinking process

Smart enough to recognize his own faults and imperfection and understand he needs his crew more than his crew needs him

Light literally fits
>Certified retard
"Wow i will just use police files sure it won't make the job easier for them"
>Wants to be the best at one profession (Pirate king, hokage, shaman king, #1 hero, etc)
Best student in Japan. Wants to be a God
>Has one power that makes them super special compared to everyone else
Death note
>Likes eating
Intense chips eating

By virtue of his central role, the shonen protagonist is usually the most powerful and most good-hearted of the group. Making them smart on top would be too suey.

A smart protag will usually give up one of the other strengths (power, good-natured) in exchange.

For example, you can have a smart protag in a setting where intelligence also basically equals power, but then they'll have a dickish personality. Think Yagami Light, Lelouch, Kei Nagai.
Or you can have a smart, good-hearted protgagonist, but they'll be weak on their own and need to rely others to actually get shit done. Like Dr. Stone or Emma from Promised Neverland.

It's harder to write without showing their thinking process. As with everything, showing things through action is harder.

Because that way they can have stuff explained to then so the audience can learn about the setting. Same reason why "fish out of water" mcs are so common. It is just really useful narratively.

Based. This is why Soft Seinen protagonists are so much better.

Gon is unironically the dumbest of the Goku clones.

>Luffy's character development finished over 900 chapters ago
Oda is such a fucking hack
