1) Games thrive on shock-content and murdering characters after you spend time and get emotional bonds with them.
Not only anime isn't able to provide as much time for every character, it also goes safe route and only kills newbies you didn't care about.
2) Many new characters are clinical retards, and this time around there is no free "well duh they are KIDS" card. Candy girl in particular is ludicrously dumb and viewer is expected to see her conflict with braces girl as "both sides did something bad".
3) Brings Chiaki back to life, retcons her into existing student, THEN kills her even more violently second time.
4) Ruins Junko by turning her from Hitler-tier charismatic leader able to brainwash people into doing her bidding into opportunistic nobody who only relied on power of hypno-anime drawn by someone entirely else.
5) Tries something ballsy for once (Kyoko gets poisoned), leaves clues that suggest she has a backup plan (meaning, she uses her skills and wits to overcome certain death), and then revives her off-screen in the last moments by someone else's hand entirely.
6) Ruins premise of world-changing event by making it just some students killing each other.

This show genuinely gets too much hate. Not to say it was great or anything, but I get the impression there's a lot of people who've only seen handpicked mainstream 'greats' and super overreacting to how bad this show was on a massive hyperbolic level. Also the threads were the best.

It wasn't just bad, it ruined all three previously games with retarded retcons. Junko gets demoted to some literal who using an evil youtube poop video. The whole cast from 2 just comes back with no consequences just because and then the spin-off open plot just gets sent to the literal space instead of giving us some good action scenes.
There's nothing really redeeming about it.
