I've had a revelation. We won't get any new plot during these 2 seasons. Too many mysteries were already setup, they can't just be handwaved at this point as something we should know (we know about Rena killing Rina and protecting her dad, but what happened during her fight with Keiichi will probably get an entire episode as explanation, same with whatever made Schmion to crazy).
So basically Sou HAS to be answer arcs to whatever is going on during this June 1983. Same with what happens to Tomitake and Takano. We'll have to wait until 2022 for a third season with JC Rika and the grown up Higurashis

OP, I hope you're right and I would absolutely love a full 50 episodes of a new show. But I am also scared that if they attempt this route that we're going to be left empty handed if it turns out that Sotsu doesn't meet expectations.

Yes and no. There's stuff that's foreshadowed and you can formulate theories as you go but the bulk of the plot is practically impossible to guess at until it's infodumped on you in the second to last episode. But if you didn't get into the solving aspect of Umineko and that's not necessarily as important to you then you probably won't have a problem with it here.

At any rate I'm glad since this op shows off my theory Yep it's unheard of to get a 50 eps anime nowadays but otherwise this anime has no reason to exist if it's just Matsuribayashi 3.0 with Rika figuring out how to survive June and it again ends at the point she begins her new life.
That really would be stupid so there has to be something after Sotsu, and I know I'm tempting Fate by talking about it.
