There's nothing at all convuluted about it. She has trauma over short lived races due to her dad dying when she was a kid, and she's an outsider to Elven society. This chapter made neither confusing or overly complicated, it made the reasons clearer if anything.

Why would it? There are no breaks on the suffering train and so much potential for this particular character to go through much worse.

You are forgetting that her lifespan may fluctuate wildly and she doesn't know if she will live longer than normal elves or have a shorter lifespan. Before her motivation seemed to be to bridge the gap between her age and that of other races, now it's potentially about fixing her own genes because her mother just couldn't find some elfen husband for some reason, another trope I'm tired of seeing in fiction. Furthermore, it annoys me how we barely get a clear answer on any of this, it was like this with her ancestry up until now, about her age, we can't even be sure about her motivation. Really hope this doesn't keep going and we get her full story soon, but this is wishful thinking considering how the mangaka has written this character this entire time.
