Prior to this scene I never had strong feelings about Reiner or Bertholdt. They were just kinda there as background-characters and part of the crew. Although Eren did kinda have a fun bromance with Reiner at times.
Was that what they were going for though? Or were we supposed to be heartbroken that 2 fan-favourites were bad guys?
>Was that what they were going for though? Yes, so you never suspect them, making this reveal even more shocking.
Evan Howard
Reiner was cool and had a pretty significant role as the 'big bro' of the group, the anime did him dirty by making it so obvious he's the Armor Titan Bert was kinda always in the background and I'd argue that was the point, this quiet tower of a man being in contrast to the most iconic titan

Neat
Michael Brown
>shocking what was shocking was how absoloutly garbage the reveal was
Dylan Ross
It was completely unexpected and treated almost casually, it was completely unsettling in universe.
Anthony Wilson
how was it unsettling in universe when they (armin, erwin, etc.) basically already knew they were the primary suspects before they revealed it themselves?
Mason Perry
They didn't know they were specifically the titans, did they? I thought they just knew that they were in cahoots with the enemy.

This here. My favorite scene of the manga precisely because of it. I miss things like these in the story.
Found the polfags who started the series at le rumble
Adam Morgan
>dude i'm the armored titan, he's the collossal, we decided to tell you now in front of everyone for no fucking reason and expected you to side with us no questions asked
Ryder Perry
Bert was really endearing in the chibi and school spinoffs
Aaron Robinson
Dishonest simplification
Leo Sullivan
Bert belongs in the garbage bin, together with stupid rotting potato whore.
more like >im starting to like you guys so fuck it we're stronger than all of you and we're gonna bruteforce our mission and get the fuck out of here
Daniel Garcia
this thread can't die yet it hasn't felt the full force of the hate and contempt this scene deserves
Brody Clark
I think the idea was that the reveal was so nonchalant that you were supposed to be taken aback just as much as the rest of the squad was. Eren and you, the reader, both felt the pain of betrayal and the feeling of righteous anger that followed.
At least, that's my interpretation.
Easton Allen
still not a reason why they would fucking do it
Josiah Wilson
Well I don't know man, DM Isayama on Twitter or something and ask
Brayden Bell
Why?
Nathaniel Green
you're retarded
Mason Brown
Did they want to fuck?
Gabriel Hughes
Because Reiner is mentally ill for fuck's sake inb4 le shitty writing
Noah Howard
Manga did the reveal better since it’s completely in the background.
Michael Ross
>noo not the nazi bogeyman not muh heckin eldiarinos Genocide is the right answer
Hudson Fisher
Thanks to the bad manga art Bertholdt was pretty much a literal who that people barely remembered because he was almost a background character until the reveal.
