Cowboy Bebop and Jazz

Is there a more iconic anime and music combination than Cowboy Bebop and its jazz soundtrack?

FLCL and Samurai Champloo are two other shows that are synonymous for having an iconic soundtrack, expect for those it isn't jazz but instead alt-rock and hip-hop respectively.

Honestly, I don't see any other anime coming close to having an "iconic anime and music combination" as much as those three shows; despite other shows having stellar soundtracks in their own right (Made In Abyss, Death Note, Wolf's Rain, Kids on the Slope, Your Lie in April, Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell SAC etc).

For me, I think what made Cowboy Bebop so unique in that regard is how it may have been the first anime where the soundtrack has its own identity, so to speak.

i think its the best OST, period.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes and classical music.

Does SpaceDandy not have a music genre attachment like CB and SC?

Oh Edo Rocket has a really jazzy soundtrack, but the anime is old and forgotten.

space dandyisn't popular enough for it's disco/funk sound to become instantly iconic.

Based.
I like Cowboy Bebop, but I can't listen to most of the music outside of the show on it's own. Meanwhile with shows like FLCL, Samurai Champloo, and LOTGH, I can listen to the music in just a casual day and not find it out of place.

Doesn't Michiko to Hatchin have a specific music style?

Kids on the Slope is Jazz, also. Hell, even K-On! is very much pop rock centric in story and OST.

I guess Lupin III comes close, but not quite.

Given the anime is globally famous as being good for both its story and its quality of art
Given the anime is globally famous for its OP and its ED
Given the anime is globally famous for its soundtrack, the ENTIRE soundtrack, and is top-rated in quality, diversity, originality and performed by a globally famous singer/artist/composer
Given the anime LITERALLY has a genre of music in its name, as well as most of its episodes

...no, probably not.

how much of the ost was plagiarized again?

Bad Dog is based on that Tom Waits song but I wouldn't call it plagiarism

Ghibli films and plinky plunky piano music desu

oh it does for sure, but it's nowhere near as iconic as Bebop and Champloo

>FLCL and alt-rock
see, what makes FLCL even more different that Bebop and most other shows, is that instead of a band just doing the OP and ED, they did the entire show's soundtrack which makes it feel so different and unique. I'm not sure how many other anime has a soundtrack like that

Gundam Thunderbolt and it's free Form jazz.

anime ruined music for me, i like watanabe's shit and jazz but this series means i can't talk about charlie parker without anime being inseted into it

Did Watanabe's Terror in Resonance just drop the paired music theme that he has successfully used in Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and later Space Dandy?

Really?
Of them I'd say that CB has the most easily listenable song outside of the anime context.
Actually to be honest I listened to the Bebop soundtrack many times before I finally got around to watching the series in full.

I openly listen to the entire Cowboy Bebop OST at work, where there's lots of people. It's jazzy and comfy and instrumental.

wdym paired music?

RUNNING IN 90'S

yeh but is Initial D on the same level as Cowboy Bebop? (in terms of soundtrack)

>they did the entire show's soundtrack which makes it feel so different and unique. I'm not sure how many other anime has a soundtrack like that

Boogiepop Phantom had a sound track made up entirely with electronic artists.

ZANKOKU NA TENSHI NO YOU NI

Aria and its OST.

Yes

As in the series as a specific music theme. Cowboy Bebop's music was focused around jazz and Samurai Champloo's music was focused around hip-hop and Space Dandy's music was focused around retro-funk.

There are tons of anime with well-regarded soundtracks, even if they haven't (yet) been considered as impactful as Cowboy Bebop.

CB has music as integral to its plot so it's a little hard to top

Does anyone remember the Zig Forums soundtrack/ost project from 2010-2012-ish? I'm looking for a link but I don't know if it's still around

Damn, I found it: web.archive.org/web/20111016211648/http://bluwiki.com/go/Ultimate_soundtr/a/ck
I'm impressed that desuarchive and archive.org go back that far.
