Yeah I kind of agree. I dropped it ages ago during Punk Hazard because I learned so little in so many chapters.

In contrast, I recently read Seven Deadly Sins and it amazes me how great it was and the pacing and such. So many reveals happen consistently throughout and at the perfect moment, not to mention it's all foreshadowed.

When he becomes a writer who doesn't make the most of the characters he creates and just has them get killed off for shock value or because they have nothing more to add to the story.

Man I remember reading this years and years ago. Back in the days when he fought characters such as Buggy and Dog Krieg or whatever his name was. That was such a fun pirate adventure looking for treasure and finding new islands. I look at it recently and what the hell is going on? The plot is all over the place, way too many characters and the art has somehow gotten worse instead of better. It's too messy, I guess it fits with the messy story but man just what happened?

I really don't get why people are obsessed with shounen mangaka being hacks or their manga having shitty writing or whatever else the fuck. Oda writes manga for children, he has for 20 years. Japanese kids pick it up from the convenience store on the way home from elementary for like five dollars. These manga are not being sold to otaku that know what literary devices are, they're not marketed to adults to be praised as art, they don't try to speak to the human condition. It is for children to read something exciting when they don't want to do their homework. You can examine One Piece under the lens of an adult who studies storytelling and you will find that the writing is childish, the character arcs are childish, the plots are childish, because it is for fucking children. It's basic fucking marketing. If my target audience is kids, they're clearly not going to be fucking interested in adult storylines.

There is generally more pay off in a single arc than most entire other manga.
The only silhouette we don't know anything about at this point is Rohogyuu, which isn't very important, and IM, which will be revealed at endgame.
