Japanese Mecha suffers from telling the same story over and over. Gundam already made the statement of, "War is bad." countless times. Evangelion is remembered because it actually managed to say something different. Now Japan in it's infinite wisdom had an opportunity to branch out after that, instead it went bad to the same war=bad that's been on repeat since the 1980's
