This, I don't think people who complained that there wasn't enough music even tried to check out what kind of show it was before watching. It's a show about the members of the Light Music Club, not a show about the Light Music Club. Plus it's adapted from a fucking kirara manga.
That aside, in 40 episodes there were full songs performed in 7 of them and then there were multiple other episodes that showcased either partial songs as a transition or had the girls begin playing for practice. Obviously there's only 6 songs used as inserts so they weren't going to have a full performance of "Fuwa Fuwa Time" in every third episode because that would have sucked (and prior to S2 that was the only insert they had). I think it's a perfectly appropriate ratio of music playing to SoL antics, because the rarity of full performances and the way the songs are saved for big moments makes the concerts that much more impactful and memorable. In the final school festival, if we had heard a bunch of performances in between the tea party and it, then the feeling that it was a special memorable moment for the girls would be lost. K-ON works because it feels like a scrapbook of someone's precious school days, not because it's a realistic hobby anime.
