Technically Dragon Ball was my first but JoJo is what really got me into the medium.

Girls und Panzer
A show about cute girls riding cute tanks

pretty much anything on oldschool toonami, but specifically Tenchi Muyo. It was either that or Inuyasha that got me started. being 10 years old and staying up for swearing and violence in cartoon-form really hooked me.

technically it would be a journey to the wst anime adaptation back in early 90's, but corrector yui was the one i knew was an anime and not just some weird cartoon.

Back in like 1992 or 1993; back before the turn of the century, I went over to a friend of mines' house because he'd just gotten Mortal Kombat for sega genesis.
I showed up at his house but his older brother had bogarted the TV and was watching Vampire Hunter D.
It was right when some dude was getting bisected in two.
Shit fuckin' floored me.
He knew a dude in canada that got his fansub tapes from some guy in hawaii

Assuming we're not counting Pokemon / Yugioh, Rurouni Kenshin was the first anime I think I was invested in, but I was too young to remember much of it today.

Can't figure out if it was a great place to start or a horrible place to start. I didn't get any of the jokes, but I still liked it.

I watched Sailor Moon with my big sister

Dragon Ball, unfortunately.

Akame might be flawed but i still like it even after 150 other shows

Elfen lied

I don't remember what the first one was, but Dirty Pair was the point where I realized anime was my thing.

Aside from stuff I had seen on tv at some point, the first anime I downloaded because I actually wanted to see it was probably Ichigo Mashimaro.

Something I watched as a kid that I was too young to remember probably. Other than that I watched a bunch of the late 90s and early 00s anime that a lot of other people did (DB/Z, Pokemon, Digimon, and other Toonami and Adult Swim stuff) and don't remember which was first.

One Piece and Rurouni Kenshin were the big ones that got me to search for other anime and manga to watch and read though.

This, I was around 7 or something. Arguably not even anime, but I remember having dick feelings for the blue thing. Also Yattaman horribly dubbed in Italian for some fucking reason.
The first real one that I knew was anime and watched because it was anime was Sailor Moon though.

Kek. Back in the day in my shithole everyone was a Moonie because that was all that was airing. Then DB started airing and with it came hordes of obnoxious newfags yelling dumb shit at each other. Us old Moonies hated them with passion and thought it couldn't get worse, but then a couple years later came the Narutards.
It got fuzzy after that with much easier access to variety of titles but those were the three distinct phases of the earliest fandom where I came from.

>Arguably not even anime
Why not?

Caught a couple DBZ episodes back in the day. Italian dubs. Didnt understand a thing. Probably better viewing experience that way.

Because it's French co-production with French writers and other staff, maybe art style to some degree too. Personally idgaf, but I've seen plenty of flamewars about it on Usenet.

any sgt frog watchers out there?
