How is 100 year quest story and fight wise? Like are the fights as short and shitty as they were towards the end of FT?

I'd say there are fights in 100YQ that are closer to how the final battle against Acnologia should have gone. There are also a few enemies who seem to get take out by the end of a chapter, but the next chapter shows them getting back on their feet.

A lot of the enemies are pretty much the Spriggan 12 done better, because a.) they aren't built up as enemies so powerful you can never hope to beat them, and b.) more bad guys actually know when to fight Fairy Tail and when to back out.

The biggest problem by far is the pacing, especially if you follow it chapter by chapter. There is so much time spent on spinning wheels and introducing seemingly intriguing or important events that go little to nowhere, it's clear that the story's getting stalled while Mashima focuses more of his attention on Edens Zero. At times I wonder how much of the story is actually Mashima's idea, because the sequel was a project started by someone else and Mashima was persuaded to come on board.

Not to mention, the plot and the nature of the 100 Years Quest itself are clear afterthoughts, with tons of questions floating around about them that none of the characters really bring up, though trust me when I say, there ARE explanations for why things are the way they are; it just takes a while to get there.

Oh, and there's ship pandering up the wazoo. Fans who were pissed their ships weren't validated by the end of the original manga will get spoiled rotten.

Bottom line: it's kinda better than where FT ended, but it's written more like Mashima's following table notes of what people want to see instead of his own wants, and is better taken in volumes than individual chapters. I prefer EZ, because despite how similar (and sometimes nearly identical) it is to FT, it's not just more of the same; it's mixed with a weird freshness and energy in different aspects from FT to make it feel like just enough of its own thing.

the color of that remake always looked so wrong. Like, even when considering the haircut changes, there's still plenty of weird color theory problems everywhere.
