>Characters motivation is laid out in the first chapter
Why does this always happen?
Characters motivation is laid out in the first chapter
It doesn't always happen, but it's actually a very good idea to have the character's motivation out ASAP.
If the audience doesn't know what the protagonist wants, then they don't care very much about what happens to the character, because they don't know what it means to them.

>Expecting quality from a cartoon made for five year olds
What mental illness causes this?
Because it defines a clear end goal to reach
Goku wants to fight
Luffy wants to find One Piece and be Pirate King
Ash wants to catch em all
Naruto wants to be ninja President
Asta wants to be magic Hokage
Natsu wants to find Ignel
Tanjiro wants to avenge his family
Senku wants to revive humanity and go to space
Shiki wants to make friends
Baki wants to beat the Ogre
but what does Ichigo want?
was there ever a clear and defined goal in Bleach or did he and most of the characters just went along with the flow?
Ichigo originally wanted fuck all to do with any of that reaper stuff, he got roped in. He made friends with Rukia, who was then sentenced to death, and in true shounen fashion he had to go save her against the establishment. From then on out, his motivations swung from place to place, but it was always about saving something.
So kids can understand and get hooked onto the series quickly, that's obvious.
true, but the main problem is that no matter who i ask almost no one can tell me what Ichigo's personality or goals were
all they tell is that he just got roped in and just went with it because there was always someone new to save
>reading shounen shit
I hate this scene, I hate this character.
I hate how presumptuous, arrogant, vain and cowardly this selfish prick is, that all he does is WISH but never applies himself. It’s childish faggotry made into his entire structural basis for being.
Just wish and never do anything to apply yourself and you too can receive heaps and heaps of deus ex machina power ups that are just perfect for your current situations.
There will never be a situation where you fall short, where you need help or where you need to rethink your strategy.
It’s bullshit that was cribbed from marvel, which is basically only american propaganda made to destroy critical thinking.
The moral foundations of bnha go against everything I value on this planet.
You can hide the motivation of the MC at the start, but you need really good writing and good characters to keep the readers interest and set up a temperate goal for the mC
>Characters have motivation
dropped, get that shit out of here
>character's motivation is unclear until literally the last episode
Based.
>ichigo
>no personality
Why does Zig Forums always expect a character to act outlandish or quirky, something that never happens in real life? Ichigo is one of the most grounded and relatable shonen MCs.
>OP makes a grand generalization that exposes his newfaggotry
Many such cases!
Name three of his personality traits and a way he expressed them at any point in the story past Soul Society.
And no, "caring about your friends" is not a personality trait.
caring about his family
why doesnt jump hire better writers
Repressed mommy issues and hero complex
You got most of the motivations wrong but the post overall is decent.
>old man narrator voice: In this world ...
Laziest world building ever
The only concrete goal I remember Ichigo having was protecting his town and friends. Which for most protags isn't even a goal, just a default part of their character.
Tu same can be said about wanting to become the strongest X
The first chapter, especially in shounen, is really important to hook audiences so it's generally a good idea to get the basic motivations of the character down so the audience will want to keep reading
Would you take OfA if you were offered it?
Most of these goals are symbolic anyway.
Luffy doesn't want to be pirate king because wants to wear a crown. To him it's the ultimate expression of freedom.
Ichigo is rather down-to-Earth and trying to live a normal life (when he's not saving the world) so beyond finishing high school his goals are by necessity task specific.
And this is what you learn in the first chapter. He'll readily rise to the challenge when he needs to protect somebody, but otherwise he'd just go to school and be "normal".
>Luffy doesn't want to be pirate king because wants to wear a crown. To him it's the ultimate expression of freedom.
But he does want to find the titular One Piece itself. That is a concrete goal
What's his motivation? I don't think it was revealed in chapter 1
He could never be that batman of his universe. He doesn't have the wealth.
My point is that you can see this goal even beyond the concrete goal. Freedom is the highest good to him, and so he travels around as a pirate, even if he might have more luck with the marines.
All that stuff is mainly told to the audience way after chapter 1 though which isn't the point of the thread
>was there ever a clear and defined goal in Bleach
He wants to be left alone by all the crazy retards who keep interfering with his life and kidnapping his friends.
Do you not understand how introducing a character works? if you dont explain to the audience why they should give a shit about this character, they dont usually give a shit
