Watching naruto for the first time and currently on the five kage summit arc and I'm confused? You guys said naruto was bad? Sure some of the writing is pretty bad (specifically the relationships/friendships/romance side of things) but the writing that actually is brilliant far outweighs it all. (Specifically the world building, setting, history, charisma and likeability of almost all of the huge cast of characters, etc.) At worst, it's a top 3 shonen of all time. At best, it's literally in the top 10 anime of all time, even with considering all genres including seinen. I have not given this much of a shit about a single anime in a long time. It far surpassed the hype for me.

If you are watching the Anime then i hope you are watching Naruto Kai which gets rid of the fillers and useless padding.

That's because you're just reaching the point where everything starts going downhill. Characters begin glowing with energy and flying and destroying mountains with energy blasts like in DBZ instead of doing ninja stuff. The sharingan becomes OP as fuck and can do pretty much anything. The Uchiha get wanked to oblivion and are made into melodramatic edgelords. Almost everyone except for the top kages become irrelevant. Then there's a surprise plot twist at the end and outright stupid shit like the coolest guy. Part 1 of Naruto was great, the first half of part 2 was good and the other half was garbage which then continued in Boruto.

Naruto had such beautiful potential early-on but got squandered as soon as power-levels became a thing and legitimate strategy went out the window.

Part one was consistently good at least. Wish we got more content from that time period. Part two had some good moments but the ending was a disappointment and they feel like completely different series at times.

Enjoy it the most you can user cause no shonen will probably ever come close to the level of excitement Naruto is able to offer. Of course, there is still some good shonen out there like KNY. Is a simple and short story but it does it well. Better than most shonen nowadays at least

the storytime made me realize how bad naruto gets after land of waves. I thought it went bad after chunin exams but it the exams itself didnt hold up.

For me it was everyone Vs Madara and Naruto Vs Sasuke.

not really, because naruto's quality nosedives early on, most modern shonen is better. Even it of them are generic but none of them are ever as bad as naruto was.

I can't believe im defending Naruto but the chunnin exams wasn't generic. It had a written exam where you had to cheat, the forest of death obstacle course/ battle royale, and then the 1v1 tournament got interrupted in the finals. Say what you want about the writing quality but its different from how tournaments usually go.

Is another fucking tournament with kids fighting. Wow so revolutionary.
