Not him but that was my problem too. I didn't give a shit about Mechamaru until that fight, and just as became a interesting he was killed, without Mahito becoming any more interesting for it.
You just have this character who grows increasingly stale with every appearance killing off characters just as they get potential to develop. It's not about powerlevels as much as the narrative killing off potential interesting developments.

It makes sense given the storyline proper, but from a narrative standpoint it was eh
Basically, it gave a minimun amount of depth to a character just to immediately kill him off.

This is literally just your personal preference with the character and not a flaw with the writing. Some people dislike the fact that Mahito is one upping people who are far weaker than him, but he is stated to have the potential to surpass Jogo and Jogo bodied the 'supreme' first grade, the guy with the black flash record and a person with heavenly binding in SECONDS. This is like complaining the Gojo running around and constantly one upping the other special grades or Mahito getting fucked by a three finger sukuna. People may call be a power level fag, but Geto stated that the one thing preventing the curses for tipping the balance was the sealing of Gojo, and now the power gap between people like Mahito and Jogo to sorcerers like Naobito and Todo is apparent.

Could you go into more details about the repetitive criticism, are you complaining about the length of the fight or that mahito keeps winning his engagement. Would you have preferred it if he had gotten one upped early despite all narrative threads pointing that he has a huge advantage against the protagonists.
So your dislike comes from his killing a character you like, that seems to stem more from what you prefer from writing rather than the technical qualities of it. even if he had killed mahito he would never have escape getwo.
