Early 2021 brings us 2 Slime shows at the same time.
Slime Isekai (Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken) returns for Season 2 in January and Slime Diaries launches in April.
What are you all looking forward to in the shows this winter? New adventures for Rimuru? Intrigue caused by the Demon Lords? New buildings constructed by Goblins?
I'm excited. I love the slime. I didn't know about Slime Diaries though. Is there a novel spinoff too or is an anime thing?
Easton Green
It's a boring side story about some chick that explores his city to write a blog about it, IIRC.
Samuel Nguyen
Ditto. I'm not the biggest isekai guy but was shocked by how much I enjoyed Slime.
MC is not a fag, the anime's S1 was competent and enjoyable, and there's a good balance of world building / political intrigue / characterization to keep the show interesting.
Charles Miller
>Is this too much Slime? I don't think so. I love the series so I would like to see it get adapted in full one day. And if they end up doing that, that means a lot of episodes of Slime.
Michael Foster
Indeed. We can hope.
As far as I know, Season 1 + OVAs covers Volumes 1-5, right?
Gavin Martin
No. Season 1 only covers up until the end of volume 4. I imagine season 2 might also only cover 3 volumes unless they cut a lot of stuff again.
John Young
Hyped for slime
Parker Morgan
Has the manga reached the point where I can read the spinoff mangas without being spoiled?
Tyler Nelson
Gotcha, good to know. How were the LNs converted? Any missing arcs or plot points? Seemed like the last episode was super rushed.
Reading the tea leaves on the business side, it looks like Bandai Namco is the money behind the project. They joined Eight Bit for producing Slime Diaries, my guess is they will bankroll the series and have exclusive merch rights, allowing them to make money long-term via merch.
Barring the series befalling poor anime execution or falling out of fashion with the audience, I'm guessing we're going to see 80-90 episodes minimum a la My Hero Academia or Attack on Titan.
Nolan Lee
Most of what was cut from the first 4 LN's were political stuff so that they could show off more of the action and end right before the Farmus invasion. I'm not sure how accurate it is but I had heard that they were planning on adapting some of the stuff they cut first thing in the beginning of season 2 which is why I think it'll only end up covering about 3 volumes.
Ryder Jenkins
Yeah, I love the world building and politics and stuff. And none of the characters are offputting. Rimuru is the best and in the books( the couple I've read so far) he's even better. I always find it funny when he just doesn't care about Gobta. Gobta is pretty capable though.
William Moore
Gotcha, that makes sense. Thanks.
I haven't watched the OVA series yet because IIRC the last episode comes out next week.
Ditto with the "Veldora's Diary" episode which I just haven't seen yet.
It would be interesting to see if they put the political stuff into either Season 2 or into Slime Diaries, which I'm guessing takes place concurrent to Season 1.
Anthony Hernandez
I've read the slime diaries manga too. That's going to be all slice of life shenanigans.
Kayden Thomas
Wrong, that's a different spin-off. Slime has 3, more or less "canon", spin-offs and 2 AU spin-offs, as well as one crossover short-series.
Nathaniel Stewart
Nice. Rimuru is great and while the many other characters aren't super distinguished, the ensenble cast is huge and has real gems like Shizu and such. Looking forward to seeing more.
Gobta getting flexed on is also a great gag.
Cool. I'm OK with seeing this. More characterization would definitely be helpful.
As an aside - the only thing that bugs me about the series tbqh is lack of farms. Cities don't spring up overnight and it's wild to believe they have a hunter gatherer society + small city but there's no farms
>Cities don't spring up overnight and it's wild to believe they have a hunter gatherer society + small city but there's no farms I think the anime left this out, but when the dryad's joined the federation, Rimuru was given access to the treants which bear magical fruit that can keep a person satiated for just 3 days for one fruit. They used these and hunting to feed the massive population they gained when they defeated the orcs until they could set up some farms. The slime diaries might actually show off some of the farming. I think I remember it having a big focus on food and how they developed alternatives to rice and potatoes to feed the populace.
Kayden Lee
Also, you mustn't forget that any transportation troubles are rendered moot by the presence of the orcs.
Jason Diaz
Neat. I'm a fan of political intrigue so this looks cool. Thanks for the heads up.
Glad to know my "Where's the food?"-autism will be satiated at some point
Levi Parker
Next week for the next OVA? Excellent. They've been pretty good so far and this cliffhanger for the last one has been killing me, even though you know everyone will make it out okay.
