I don't really agree, but accepting the assertion that there is no tension left in the story, I'd still say that it did not have to be this way - the author fucked up, he could have done a lot better even without changing the characters much

fun panels, but I'd rather have the manga actually take this seriously - a woman he fell in love with swindled him out of the wealth he could have built a life and family with. Add some panels on how a warm home and a child are secretly his dearest dream, despite the pragmatic outlook otherwise, and you have a pretty decent storyline. NO, must shoehorn the latest progressive fad instead, what if thorkel but mother raised him as a girl, rad!
