pacing

thatand too many breaks

Damn, Undertale look like that?!

Everything up to the chapter where he reveals his form to the tsundere are kino, but everything after that has shit, dragged out pacing

The monster designs and fights have been fun. The characters and there designs are so dull and cliche they feel like background characters in a slightly better manga.

>What killed the hype?

Ultimately, the manga should have been "smaller" -- smaller cast, smaller stakes. For one reason or another, the mangaka doesn't seem comfortable writing this "type" of battle manga. It's one thing to just write a series of lasers and explosions and gotcha-moments, but it's another thing entirely to make the audience care in spite of the fact that the action and rules are being made up on the spot.

I have no idea who told the mangaka to focus on Kafka-as-Kaiju instead of Kafka-as-human, but that was a dogshit piece of advice. Further, skipping over the growing pains of learning to use the Kaiju form is just such a weird thing to do as a writer.

And I think that's what people are realizing about what Kaiju No. 8 is: a series with a promising first chapter based off a major writing-gambit, which has continually made gambits on character development and pacing and other things. The fact that these gambles have not paid off well makes it hard to keep interest.

This had hype to begin with? Come on now.

I did

Yes

While I have enjoyed the manga so far, I do wish it would have stuck to its original premise. Following a group of people who clean up the remains of a dead Kaiju would have been much more interesting in my opinion.

>military shows up when Kafka is about to win
I hate it

Karma.

It's a generic subpar manga

MHA ripoff, MC didn't cry enough so manga couldn't get as much audience

They hype was based on a misconception about the nature of the series

We don't even know the sales of the first volume yet.

This will determine the hype.

The reveal that it was a gag manga instead of a straight up battle shonen

Poor plot development, and continual bad decisions that make plot development harder. Weak characters/character writing, weak worldbuilding, just really has nothing going on.

Seems like a veteran that planned very hard for how to write the fist volume of a new serialization and then hit the reality that they have to crank this shit out 3 weeks a month.

Speaking of which, what happened to Desert 7? It seemed promising but I haven't seen a thread on here since the first chapter.

>Desert 7
What?

It still gets more view than 2/3 of series on J+ so the hype isn't really dead yet. But let's wait for the volume release. That's a better indicator.

I had completely forgotten that was a thing

I just don't have anything to talk about, but I find it fun to read so far. The pacing is a indeed a bit weird, but it hasn't detached me too hard yet.

You don't need generals for it to be popular. Lots of stuff that turns super popular also starts off with weak threads on Zig Forums a lot of the time anyway.

people who think kaiju 8 isn't popular because there's no thread here are retarded. it's clear that it's very popular since Jump+ shows number of viewers that new chapter gets each week.

I thought this was going to be the new Hunter X Hunter but it turns out it's just another piece of trash.
Sigh

DICK PISSING NIPPLES!

>just another piece of trash.
So it IS the new Hunter X Hunter
