Still the best ninja anime i´ve ever seen. Only Ninja scroll is on the same tier but i think Basilisk have better developed characters, fights and an overal more compelling drama. No doubt some would call this tragedy edgy but i think ninja stories ought to be like this.
I started thinking that too but the Iga did have some cool ninjas like Akeginu and Koshiro.
Saemon was the absoulte best, no doubt. I do feel bad for his victims though...

Saemon was great. Tenzen was honestly my least favorite part of the plot, you didn't need a "root of all evil" villain in a story about two sides fighting each other.
I still get chills whenever I hear that "haru no kaze ni harahara to, MAIIIIIIIICHIRUUUUUUU".

I don't think the Basilisk sequel was the anime staff's fault, it was written by a different guy to begin with and the core plot was just retarded. That said, I didn't really like YM anyway, it just felt kind of pointless.
