People always say Hunter x Hunter is a deconstruction of generic anime and meant to "subvert your expectations" but specifically which anime is it meant to be subverting? Dragon Ball?
People always say Hunter x Hunter is a deconstruction of generic anime and meant to "subvert your expectations" but...
The anime in your head. My expectations were subverted when the heroes of the Chimera Ant arc (Gon, Netero) became the villain and the villains (Meruem, Royal Guards) became the hero.
>togashi is too lazy to choreograph fight scene so he skips to scene where the other person is already dead
wow i was sure subverted
It's subverting expectations of Togashi being a good mangaka, because his previous manga Yu Yu Hakusho was great while Hunter x Hunter is shit.
>dude humans are the real monsters lmao
Cringe
based
>the dude who killed thousands of humans and made then literal mest balls and was planning to kill 5 million people is actually a good guy because he learned to like a retarded blind girl and the man who killed him and gave his life to defeat him saving millions of lives is actually evil
This is literally "he was the coolest guy" Nardo tier thinking, please fucking rope or some shit.
What a dumb fucking question. You are a retarded faggot.
thats kinda cringe ngl (pun intended)
muh humans bad
>yet does exactly what humans do
the chimera ant were an insult to real life ants, ants are not that dumb. the lack of self awareness is beyond the roof
If all of them were human, I would have said the same. Them being ants changes nothing.
Meruem wanted Netero to explain where he was wrong. Netero declined because he wanted a good fight and had to blackmail Meruem to force a fight. At the end Meruem was a different person and yes he was the coolest guy.
>when the heroes of the Chimera Ant arc (Gon, Netero) became the villain and the villains (Meruem, Royal Guards) became the hero.
Has this retard even read Chimera Ant arc?
Dragon Ball and by extension all battle shonen, yes. Also other typical Hero's Journey/good vs evil type stories.
>Exam tournament has no fights and is skipped, any other author would completely show it to keep spics entertained
>no fights in Killua rescue arc because Silva just lets his son go as he isn't some generic evil baddie
>Massive arena with floor masters to defeat? Gon and Killua aren't even interested and leave
>Yorknew is an actual story with organic developments and an anticlimatic ending instead of some shonenshit where the protagonists fight members of the phantom troupe until they defeat them and gon defeating chrollo like a wan piss arc
>CA focuses on the "heroes" becoming more and more monstrous while the "villains" turn more human
>epic battle between 2 powerhouses (Meruem V Netero) isn't even decided by strength but by a nuke
>in the most major arc the main protagonist and antagonist never even meet
>Gon's "legendary" dad is just some deadbeat who everyone hates and Gon doesn't even end up liking that much
>in it's current state, becomes a complex political thriller where the original MC is no longer even in the story because of his consequences from the previous arc
holy cope, especially that image.
>MC gets a literal asspull powerup that makes him "as powerful as Meruem" (from Pitou's own mouth) that supposedly should make him bedridden for life
>gets insta revived by a tranny less than 10 chapters later
great subversion hunterfags, subversion of quality.
>didnt understand that dragon ball was more about the people surrounding goku and not goku himself
not my fault you can only find meaning in cringe shit
he lost all of his power and we never see him again
Meruem was literally an ant that lacked empathy and only learned to like a girl because the was exceptionally good at something and able to beat him, he only liked people who were extremely talented at something and considered the rest subhuman, also he killed thousands and was ready to kill millions without a single shred of remorse and even by the end of his fight with Netero he was still a piece of shit that wanted to build concentration camps of humans and let only the most talented ones survive. He was by definition a piece of shit war criminal that deserved to be nuked off the face of the earth together with his man eating brethren.
Luffy actually never defeated anyone way stronger than him ever in a manga that has almost 1000 chapters, Gon went from a borderline fodder to as strong as the strongest being alive because he was muh angery, dilate hunterkek.
it's not a deconstruction nor does merely not following some shonen tropes count as a subversion of the genre.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great anime, but the fanbase trying to elevate it to more than it is by calling it subversive or even a "soft seinen" is incredibly cringe
the greatest story ever told
Gon is the MC up untill the end of the hunter exam, and then the story shift to kurapika. Gon isn’t some OP character and even if his father is one of the strongest hunters gon doesn’t have that power. Killua is strong and gets even stronger once he learns nen. It takes a more organic approach to adventure series one in where everyone has their own paths and don’t rely on the main group or character to move the story further. Gon doesn’t even participate in the chimera ant art untill the end because he’s too weak. He had to trade his nen power to even kill pitou. Hunter^2 isn’t a good manga as a whole and isn’t even finished because togashi is gay
The only one you can call a "inverted villain" in the chimera ant arc is Netero in his fight with Meruem
Remember when Sensui and Itsuki became the good guys and Yusuke and his crew became the bad guys in Yu Yu as well? Why is Togashi so based?
based
I don't know, for me it was a typical battle shonen, only less retarded. But hxh fans love to delude themselves into this being some masterpiece comparable at the level of other pieces of art like Tarkovsky films or Don Quixote
Yu Yu has more soul more Hunter has more nuance, both are very based series though
>didnt understand that dragon ball was more about the people surrounding goku and not goku himself
bull heckin shit, they tried going they route in the later parts of the cell arc and first half of buu arc before going right back to muh gokuuuu
>Luffy actually never defeated anyone way stronger than him ever in a manga that has almost 1000 chapters
muh gears
Judging by his development I don't think it would have taken him long to realise his mistakes and by how he behaved after the nuke I believe he already did. His crimes are not surprising, since he only had 40 days to learn about human values. I wonder what you would have done with his power.
We never saw anyone again cause togashi is a dick
Don't worry he'll make an appearance to get killed for a dramatic moment.
It's been two years since we last had a chapter.
how subversive!
hxh subverts the shonen trope of having chapters for the manga actually come out
he just keeps winning
I still dont understand what is wrong with Togashi or Miura. Can't even do like 60 pages a year? Can't even sketch out the panels or draft a story board so others can do it? Togashi literally can't even plot out the story a chapter ahead
