Not a pissfag but KnY was too short for what it initially suggested. There was nowhere near enough character development independent of the plot or side arcs or even basic delivery on the worldbuilding implied by the power system (It's hard to materialize Pillars and Moons as elites when they're seemingly more common than weaker entities). It should have been about twice as long AT LEAST to do what shounen longrunners typically do in terms of character attachment and cultural impact. Ring of fire much pretty very wow but in 10 years nobody will care about KnY, but they'll still be talking about OP, HxH, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail, etc because those are (literal narrative) epics that people really got in with. KnY had a mediocre run and was produced as a typical seasonal for the anime. Flop to fluke and back again.

As the person above said, Jojo is an example of a long good manga. It doesn't overstay its welcome. Every part is different from the last.

Shueisha even put Kimetsu initial print at 3.95m despite having it be reprinted 5 days later, because One Pieces record is at 4.05m.

Oda is Shueisha's golden boy. He's earned so much money for the company they won't step on his toes.

Long manga tend to outgrow their initial premise so it's easier for people to lose interest and leave. Look what happened with AoT. Only autists, schizos and Zig Forumstards keep reading.

the arcs started to progressively get longer and more bloated with different characters and subplots going on simultaneously. Oda wants us to get invested into all that jazz but the truth is that the same formula gets repeative, especially since we are spending 100+ chapters focusing on uninteresting story beats. The form worked better with shorter arcs and less crew.

Another major gripe of mine is the modern artstyle. The linework is extremely messy and pages just "muddle" into unfocused lines of ink. each page is filled with fuckload of detail (to give the shitty anime more material for epic reaction shots) but because of the smudgy inking the composition fails. Add to that the fact that Oda is weak at paneling, has poor grasp at volumetric artwork and you end with a series with great potential but flawed excexution.
