I often like this. I also tend to love anime or manga that are based on novels instead of manga/LN a lot.
I thought so too. The eyes feel very much inspired by certain Kyoani series.

Besides the Shinka eyes? I can see it but it may be more a case of other designers learning to ape the popular KyoAni look, a la Sora no Woto/K-ON.

He is a drama director but I've read a few of his statements on WEP and it actually seems pretty promising. He feels like the Japanese Drama environment is suffocating and envies the level of freedom anime writers have. In the drama industry he tried to push back against the overdramatic exaggerated storytelling and went for grittier writing, and ended up being pretty highly regarded for it. I think it's well worth keeping an eye on, especially with a promising director too.

Maybe it's just a special production considering the guy who came up with the original plan and script has never worked on an anime before. Either that or they're retarded

It happens more frequently than you think. There have been shows that were delayed less than a week before their intended premiere. There was also Rifle is Beautiful where, it premiered on time, but the trailer for the show came out just two days before its premiere and prior to that all we got was the key art. Then again, RiB did have a recap episode partway through and the last episode was delayed by a week or two, so maybe it just barely avoided getting delayed.
