Remember when anime wasn't mostly shit?
Take your goggles off.
Take your grasses off
Everything has always been mostly shit. It's like how the universe is mostly dark. Take your goggles off, the average quality of shows is actually higher now.
Anime has almost always been mostly shit. It's just that now it's easily accesible and there isn't an entity such as Manga Entertainment curating what would sell on the states
So far I've got:
-AKIRA
-Ninja Scroll
-Ghost in the Shell
-Devilman Crybaby
-Fist of the North Star
-Street Fighter
And I think that scene of the crucifix being taken from a girl early in the video is from the 80's Vampire Hunter D OVA
Can someone help complete the list?
>Take your goggles off, the average quality of shows is actually higher now.
The majority of shows nowadays are moe shit and weeb fanservice, so no the quality isn't higher
Anyone with a brain whose seen enough anime knows that most retro anime was all flare and nothing else. Abundant toy commercials too. Essentially soulless.
There were plenty of moe shit and fanservice shows back then, you just memory holed them because that period of anime is overly romanticized and that would go against your narrative.
I wonder why so many people who hate anime come to Zig Forums.
>wasn't mostly shit
>mostly
That video only captures like 1% of the anime that actually existed in the past, and ironically, half of the anime in that video are still shit.
>The majority of shows nowadays are moe shit
"""Moe""" peaked in quantity 15-20 years ago.
>weeb fanservice
What does this even mean? If you just mean ecchi fanserve, the 1990s is the most fanservicey decade of any.
>I wonder why so many people who hate [thing] come to /board about [thing]/.

What went wrong?
this is the most normalfag list I've ever seen
>The majority of shows nowadays are moe shit and weeb fanservice, so no the quality isn't higher
Here's the actual kind of anime that was popular with anime fans in the 1990s on internet forums lol.

>not posting the classic Nordic Rock one
Excel Saga is the greatest
I unironically prefer oldschool moe, harems and cute girls over oldschool "manime", sci-fi and action series. The latter's always been for clueless normalfags.
Me too. The humor on old shows is fantastic too.
And you are right about normalfags. I don't think anyone who watches oldschool action stuff is one but it does attract normalfags like flies to shit. Usually these people are the most vocal and they think they know a lot more about the medium than they actually do. Case in point, this crap:
>-AKIRA
>-Ninja Scroll
>-Ghost in the Shell
>-Devilman Crybaby
>-Fist of the North Star
>-Street Fighter
I've identified:
>Genocyber
>City Hunter
>Royal Space Force
>Tokyo Babylon
>Roujin Z
>Urotsukidoji
>Dominion Tank Police
Can't recognize any of the others...
>popular
yeah right.
more like what went so right?
There's also Alita and Appleseed
Who's the chick on the right?
>You just have Nostalgia goggles
Yeah, right because Akuma dive is totally just as good as Gits and Your Name is better than Akira, And Hosoda is beter than peak Miyazaki.
Modern anime is shit !
YouTube didn't exist in the 90s. It's clear both you and the OP are talking about a time when you weren't even alive.
>youtube views are a good measurement of popularity
???
Nuku Nuku was literally a staple of every anime fan going through high school/college in the early 90s dude.
Go back to Zig Forums, Narutard.
desuarchive.org
No.
The Most popular songs and shows from the 70s still get millions views.
>That video only captures like 1% of the anime that actually existed in the past, and ironically, half of the anime in that video are still shit.
This.
Mid-late 90s***
My bad.
But if you actually went to American anime conventions in the 90s, you'd be surprised how much cute girl, moe, comedy, ecchi, hentai and little girl shows were there, in comparison to the normalfag-tier gritty sci-fi action series that played on American televisions and distributed in mainstream video stores. The 90s Western anime fandom wasn't some breeding ground for manly men to discuss manly action series.
>youtube views are a good metric for judging popularity
You are mentally retarded. Lost Universe wasn't even popular when it aired, by the way.
Attack the arguement not the poster. You fags who claim the quality of anime is still the same always post garabege older shows but never good newer shows. Yeah no shit there was a lot of trash in the 90s but there was also some pure kino, now it's just trash.
People used to give you serious reccs before they caught on you were a deprived Hunter troll.
I am not the only one making these threads, and if i wanted recs I would make a 3x3 thread.
>You fags who claim the quality of anime is still the same always post garabege older shows but never good newer shows. Yeah no shit there was a lot of trash in the 90s but there was also some pure kino, now it's just trash.
Pretty much this
It's not that there wasn't any bad and repetitive shows in the 90's
It that there was a higher percentage of good stuff comparatively to today
And that at least most of the bad shit was bad because it just didn't stand out in any way
Now the bad stuff is shit because it's fucking cringe
Stop posting shit opinions with pictures of Re-l
By that metric, iconic 90s stuff which shaped entire trends like Tenchi Muyo, Ah My Goddess, and El Hazard aren't popular.
