The IRS does not contact you by the phone. They will always send a letter so if by contacted you mean they called you then you should be suspicious

Give them your Private Key over the phone and they will sort if out for you.Slight technical error from microsoft customer support.

happened to me. they are going to ask you to send all of your BTC to their wallet address so that they can inspect it. I'll send you the address if you want it just let me know

that's a scam user, you'd have gotten a letter in the mail.

tell them to suck a fat cock

no it was legit on letter. they want to do a full interview next week.
is IRS like the police that you shouldn't talk to them? what if I told them to contact my lawyer.

Get your big fat blow job lips ready. You're gonna have to suck some administrative cock. See if you can negotiate for a break every 5th guy or you're just gonna have to power through the whole thing.

The US government doesn’t even know who is and who is not a citizen, how the fuck will the IRS ever come after crypto

They already know everything. They know what's true, what's a lie... they just want to catch you lying so they can steal even more. In short, don't lie, and study up so you don't accidentally lie.

tell them your ID was stolen from one of the millions of hacked websites and used to purchase bitcoin.

>they scheduled a phone call.
scammers

if they know everything, why don't they just tell me how much I owe. why these jewish games.

This

They operate by stealing money, it's their entire shtick.

so what should I say in the interview? my attorney said if i dont do it they will come after me harder. i dont see what the point is.

Take the interview, but any time you are asked about something specific, simply say you can’t remember. Bide your time, see what they know (assume everything) and in parallel figure out what you might owe

It's generally better to co-operate and be honest. Hire an accountant or a lawyer if you have funds.
That seems awefully short notice for them tho - they sent the original coinbase letters in 18. There were three levels - which one of these did you get? cryptotrader.tax/blog/irs-letter-6174-a-for-cryptocurrency?source=post_page---------------------------

Larp

Not paying the mob boss is generally a bad idea.

>Give them your Private Key over the phone and they will sort if out for you.

this is the right answer, some helpful pajeet at the other end of the line will take it from there

OP how much btc did you buy?

It’s a scam, don’t be an idiot

Lol. IRS doesn’t call people.

Did they have a thick Indian accent?

This. Sage this faggot thread

And if it was real, which it isn’t, you would opt to not make any statement with them whatsoever. You can gain nothing from volunteering to give them evidence against you. That is when you lawyer up and use them to mediate anything.

dont want to deal withcoinbase anymore, whats a better option to buy crypto in usa?

Man I think it's hard now - for new fiat I'd just buy and hold GBTC or some shit that will go up more than BTC in the big runup.
For trading you're prob stuck with flying to Canada and using ATMs or finding in person / mail. I saw some desktop exchange still had cash mail like localbitcoins used to. Prob bank transfers with individuals are better than coinbase.
The prob with them a lot of people don't know about is that when you withdraw from your wallet they submit some dumb form to the IRS with your gains. The IRS assumes you made whatever that amount is and when it doesn't match what you reported (because that's not actually what you traded) you get autoflagged.
I pay all my taxes but try to stay off their radar just because they don't understand it and all of their rules aren't made to deal with it & I don't want to get caught up in the headache. Go 100% legit or 100% dark and never withdraw a dime or do KYC. Do not do in between.

that is the kind of info I want to know, but my attorney is saying that I should talk to them.

How do you convert fiat without going 'legit'?

Google it - generally you co-operate with the IRS and come clean as best you can the first time. It's different than the police but by a very fine balance.
The ones that talk to you decide if they are going to put a case in to their higher ups to go thru the 'seize all your assets/bank accounts' - their job is to collect money not put you in jail.

There are ways but short answer is don't

lawyer here, you should answer every question they ask. now fuck off
