The Hawkins thing is a fairly big plot hole.
Drake obviously fucked him over (just him being there beforehand had Hawkins a little suspicious) and helped Law escape, Law then thrashed Hawkins while Drake waited outside the cell, and... They let him go. Neither Law nor Drake killed him to maintain Drake's cover, and Law didn't even at least take his heart to enslave him or anything.
It just doesn't make sense.

The anime showed it was because Drake was going ham on torturing Law, assumedly because he was behind Doflamingo's (the man who killed his abusive father) downfall. Whether that's what Oda intended or not remains to be seen.
