Pacific War in Anime & Manga

Is there any reason as to why Japan keeps focusing on the Pacific War after all these years, Zig Forums? Or why they keep bringing up the war in anime and manga that doesn't pertain to it?

They were the goods guys trying to help their fellow Asian brethren from imperialistic westerners. One of the few wars that had a black and white outlook. And their defeat doom them into being vassals to America.

The war was extremely traumatic for them and they can’t let go.

The Pacific War was very much a 19th-Century war; two imperial powers fighting over colonial territory. However, because Japan was part of the Axis, that aspect was overshadowed by the moral war that was the European Theater. And if Germany was going to surrender unconditionally, Japan would too.
So from the Japanese perspective, a very normal and very Western landgrab was answered with firebombing and nukes. It left them with a confused and neutered society, and they've been recovering socially ever since.

Why do people call the war in Europe a moral one ?

Maybe it's because it was the only war they participated in, in recent history.

Japan needed an absolutely absurd amount of oil to support their navy. Previously they had relied on American imports, but Roosevelt cut them off and they sought their own source, which was the Dutch East Indies. But Japan couldn't conquer Indonesia with the Americans still occupying the Philippines.
The Japanese military planned to strike the American Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, invade and occupy the Philippines, and then strike a peace deal with the US. Sadly this is exactly what Roosevelt wanted them to do, and it gave the US the excuse they needed to enter the war.
TL;DR America wanted to enter the war but not as the aggressor.

They intentionally committed countless attrocities so that their own troops would fear reciprocated treatment by Allied troops and not surrender.

Also FDR was desperate to get involved in Europe but the public opinion was overwhelming in favor of maintaning the American isolationism. Bullying the japs into bombing Pearl Harbor awake the old yellow peril and suddenly the American public opinion asked to exterminated the jap race from the face of the Earth. And like Japan was part of the Axis, that mean Germany was the enemy too.

It's OK when the west do it. Really. People often don't take in consideration the cultural context. It was mainstream science that yellow men were a degenerate race but there was Japan, a yellow empire taking territories like white men. This was really uncomfortable for the western ambassadors so that's why Japan couldn't get shit by diplomacy. They were viewed as monkeys disguised as men. They only get shit done with militar invasions

Reminder that The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere was inspired by the Monroe Doctrine (Asia for Asians) but just like America, the real goal was to repelled the Europeans to install puppet governments and protectorates for controlling the resources and having the locals as cheap work force .
