This is the most overrated show by Zig Forums. The idea of a cool European James Bond-type thief going on adventures and capers is cool. Cool people would like an anime like that. It sucks though. People pretend it is good to look cool because it is old and not many people watch it now so no one will call you out on your shit.
Only the Castle of Cagliostro is good. The rest of the Lupin franchise sucks.

The earlier James Bond movies, or most of them before Daniel Craig's (even these, according to many), were not that far off from what you are thinking Lupin III is like. Lupin III is a generally wackier series, but the fact that it is animated makes it more harmonious, and plenty of its plots would still be at home in a more serious James Bond format of story.
These are fair takes honestly, although they don't apply universally to every Lupin work. For every lupin work with shitty low effort animation with crap art and QUALITY up the wazoo there's one where they knock it out of the park. For every unrealistic scooby doo plot, there's one that tackles some interesting themes in a novel way.

Lupin I could believe is half because of the pathetic need for the Japanese to have their heroes be of their blood, but Jigen I think is 100% Caucasian. What little background he has says that he was born in the Bronx and was a made man in the mafia, which couldn't have happened if he had Japanese blood.
