Yeah the manga was complete trash imo. I don't know how these people thought okay let's adapt this. It's kinda like Perfect Blue. If you read the novel, it was a pretty mediocre slasher. I have no idea how Satoshi Kon was asked to adapt it. Love how he didn't even read the novel either.
main villain kidnaps MC because he saw him cry in class as a kid and HOW DARE YOU MUH PRIDE AHHHHHHHH. also the girl isn't related to him or anything just some random chick at a bar. series ends with villain killing himself and MC wondering if he's still hypnotised or not
