How come this franchise never got as big as Dragonball or, for that matter, *Precure* in the West?

It was really only big in South America, I don’t think the Nips ever cared about it.
When it was popular, burguers were digesting anime made by 4kids and nelvana. And it was released late when the series was "too old" for the fatties.
>Precure
that one has cute girls, i'm pretty sure that's the main reason
It got its ass handed to it by Hokuto no Ken, which is admittedly much more entertaining.
i don't think precure is as big as dragon ball, man
didn't even know what it was until i came to Zig Forums
How many times do we need to debunk this shit
I said "or for that matter".
As in.
It's smaller than Precure.
Just stop replying to the imbecile, and move on.
it's not lol
Saint Seiya is way bigger than Precure but it reached its peak when merchandise wasn't as expanded as today. Also Saint Seiya wasn't conceived as a toy vehicle. Sure, Toei execs saw the potential of the cloths but the original idea wasn't a toy commercial but Kurumada projecting his homoerotic fantasies and leftist sensibilities but with armors
It’s just Super Sentai for fujos.
It's a thing from its time. It couldn't be made before or after for the high levels of violence and mature content but it's not a 2deep4u show but shounen at its core, with a juvenile sense of justice and idealized manly bonds. Also it started a ripple effect on the industry that still continue so Saint Seiya looks "generic" because it has been ripped-off so many times in so many different ways
What do you mean? It was quite popular in the West. France, Italy, and many Latin American countries loved it. It's mostly just English speaking countries where it didn't catch on.
America was founded by puritans and brits are always the bad guys, even when they fought the nazis (it was bad guys vs bad guys) so they just can't empathyze with pure-hearted heroes like the bronze saints
>America was founded by puritans and brits are always the bad guys, even when they fought the nazis (it was bad guys vs bad guys) so they just can't empathyze with pure-hearted heroes like the bronze saints
Makes sense honestly.
>FIGHTFIGHTFIGHTFIGHTFIGHTFIGHT with minimal downtime to flesh out or characterize
>the fighting consists of big attack spam without much else really going for it a lot of the time
I love it and all but it's easy to see why.
>burguers
>gue
Lmao retarded spic
I’m amazed it even made it out of Japan at all, it’s so damn repetitive.
The reason Hades saga is my favourite is because it's a full-on adventure beyond simply just moving from boss fight to boss fight while they have a time limit. In the manga, you had Sanctuary AND Poseidon having a time limit to save Athena and going from boss to boss with the latter being a lot less interesting than the former, the anime's Asgard arc that comes before the Poseidon arc also does this although I like that one a lot too.
With Hades there's a full on war with the sanctuary, then you have an entire odyssey through a Divine Comedy inspired underworld with amazing setpieces. I wish Saint Seiya media would take more inspiration from that kind of approach. I'd even take an arc that takes place within a cityscape, just explore and try different things once in a while.
And who care about AmeriMUTTS?
because blood bad and also someone was suing because they stole his idea for a show which weren't even close to be similar
You mean in anglosphere? Awful like literamly what the fuck dub, censoriship and gutting the incredible soundtrack killed any chance it had.
why does he bother having a cloth if he always removes it?
Removing the cloth and showing his life tatoo gives him power, not the fact that he does not wear the cloth
Is Precure popular outside of Japan?
Becouse it makes him more manly to toss aside his cloth and battle in a fair figth when it is time for that.
Man, I never liked the 2nd gen cloths. The helmets from the first gen were cool as fuck.
Soul of Gold reads like a fanfic, the main purpose was to sell toys of the god cloth so that's why they had to recycle asgard again because not only is one of the best filler they thought about but because being a filler arc is also the safest choice to not ruin the canon timeline. Each golden saint has given some bishonen personality almost like they were trying to attract the fujo audience, or at least those who had not a lot of screentime to develop their character, in a span of 12 episode it felt that it was still too long with nothing actually happening until halfway there.

>of course aiolia can use the odin armor but he'll turn it gold because he's a golden saint now buy his figure!
He needs to show that cool dragon tattoo
Because cucked OP was clearly talking about USA. SS was popular in any other western country.
all I remember about the american dub was that it had a mid 2000's pop-punk cover of "I ran" by flock of seagulls as the OP for some goddamn reason
